For temporary employment of 12 months OHB System AG in Bremen is looking for a
Working Student (m/f/d) Automation Engineering and AI
The Assembly, Integration & Test department at OHB System AG is expanding its automation activities to prepare for future constellation-scale satellite production. As part of this transformation, the Automation Team is exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence, data analysis, and smart tooling to improve integration, testing, and operational processes. To support this effort, we are looking for a Working Student with strong interest in AI, automation, and software-based tooling who will contribute mainly to AI-driven concepts, prototypes, and technical proposals, working closely with an experienced Automation Engineer. This position is ideal for a student who wants hands-on experience applying AI and software engineering concepts in a high-tech aerospace environment.
Your Tasks
- Support the Automation Team in AI-related studies, concepts, and proposals for AIT automation
-
Research and evaluate AI use cases for satellite integration and testing (e.g. log analysis, anomaly detection, operator assistance)
-
Develop small prototypes, scripts, or proof-of-concepts to validate AI or data-driven ideas
-
Assist in analysing logs, telemetry, and process data to identify automation or optimization potential
-
Prepare technical documentation, concept descriptions, and presentation material for internal or customer proposals
-
Support the development and improvement of internal tools and automation frameworks
-
Collaborate with automation and tester engineers to understand real workflows and challenges
-
Help identify manual or repetitive processes that could benefit from AI-assisted automation
This role does not require full ownership of automation frameworks or production code, but focuses on support, research, and implementation under guidance.
Your Qualifications
-
Enrolled student in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Data Science, or a related technical field
-
Basic to solid programming skills, preferably in Python
-
Interest in Artificial Intelligence, data analysis, automation, or intelligent tools
-
Familiarity with fundamental software engineering concepts
-
Basic understanding of version control systems (e.g. Git)
-
Curious mindset and willingness to explore new technical topics
-
Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers
-
Fluent in English (German is a plus, but not required)
Nice to have
-
Experience with CCS (Central Check-Out Systems)
-
Experience applying data analysis or AI techniques (e.g. log/telemetry analysis, anomaly detection, process optimization)
-
Familiarity with Python data and ML libraries (e.g. pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn)
-
Background in AIT, aerospace, satellite systems, or space operations
-
Basic understanding of project management concepts, such as task breakdown, effort estimation, timelines, and dependencies
-
Ability to structure technical ideas into plans or proposals, including objectives, scope, risks, and expected benefits
