What to Expect
For the GFBB we are searching for Senior Environmental Engineer / Major Incident Officer (Störfallbeauftragter). The candidate will work together with other EHS professionals to support all environmental topics with a focus in Cell & Powertrain operations. The position is responsible for creating and streamlining the systems and procedures necessary to manage environmental and major incident related topics in the company. The main duties will consist of working in diverse, cross-functional teams to build and manage Tesla’s environmental and major incident policies, programs, and procedures. This position will also serve as the main regulatory point of contact for the cell in this specialist topic.
The candidate will report to the Gigafactory EHS Management and play a key role in the continuous improvement process in the department.
What You'll Do-
Ensure Tesla (Cell) is in compliance with all applicable environmental laws, permits, waste, water and emission control regulations

Work closely with the other Environmental Officers (Water Protection, Waste, emission) and other EHS representatives, ensuring that required actions are addressed to maintain compliance

Assist with environmental permitting processes (major incident ordinance, waste, water and emission control) and monitor compliance with permits and laws related to emissions, conduction on-site inspections

Prepare required environmental compliance and permit reports and follow-up on regulatory inspections (e.g., IED inspection)

Identify, analyze, and track new and emerging environmental regulations and implement programs and procedures to ensure compliance with laws and permits.

Assumption of duties as Major Incident Officer (Störfallbeauftragter).

Management and implementation of the requirements of the Major Accident Ordinance, including the management of prevention and emergency measures.

Drive improvement programs and projects to improve environmental performance

Serve as primary liaison with regulatory authorities, government agencies, and community stakeholders, representing Tesla in environmental audits, permit negotiations, and public consultations to maintain the company's environmental reputation and social license to operate.
What You'll Bring-
BSc or MSc in Environmental and Chemical Engineering or a closely related EHS discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in environmental topics, including waste, water, and emissions management.
- Extensive knowledge of REACH and other chemical regulations.
- Background in the process industry or manufacturing environment.
- Proven ability to perform effectively under pressure, managing competing demands and tight deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
- Strong influencing and communication skills across all levels of management.
- Ability to translate complex technical information into clear business context.
- Fluent in both English and German.
