To ensure, at all phases of an aero gas turbine lifecycle, that the Safety & Reliability attributes of the product are understood and that the risks arising from it are managed to an acceptable level. Contribute to the capability acquisition / improvement as well as to the technical and process governance of the S&R capability.
Key Accountabilities
- Understand possible degradations and potential failure mechanisms of a gas turbine’s control system, the associated consequences of the resulting failure modes and the hazards they contribute to. Where applicable, develop and deploy models to characterize them using deterministic or probabilistic / data mining techniques.
- Lead and conduct the assessment of new and derivative design solutions/architectures, product operation and maintenance practices to evaluate their impact on product Safety. Develop and deploy models at software, component, system and asset levels in order to characterize the product's Safety attributes. Support the associated function and part classification activities.
- Extract actionable insights from these analyses and generate improvement proposals in order to influence the product's design, its development and its in-service management.
- Support product development, entry into service and in-service phases through the coordination, provision, and update of Safety & Reliability documentation (e.g. FHA, PSSA, electronics and unit FMECAs, SSA, TLD, requirements, etc).
- Coordinate with customers, suppliers and regulatory authorities on Safety & Reliability matters on behalf of the specific specialist discipline.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree, Master's or PhD (or regional equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or a related technical discipline.
- Practical experience conducting safety assessments, failure analyses, or verification tests on control or embedded systems is required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate hands-on involvement in technical analysis through academic projects, internships, or professional roles.
- Demonstrated experience in applying analytical tools and methods to the safety assessment of complex control or embedded systems—including mechanical, electronic, and software elements—is strongly preferred.
- Technical experience in the deployment of Safety & Reliability tools and methods or interest in this area. Knowledge of MATLAB/SIMULINK is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following: ARP4761, ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-160, DO-254 or safety standards from other industries, e.g. ISO26262. Experience with aerospace certification frameworks is an advantage, but candidates with transferable certification or homologation experience from other regulated industries are welcome.
- Fluent English communication skills.
