The Bavarian International School gAG (BIS) is a private, non-profit all-day school with two campuses in the north of Munich (Haimhausen) and in Schwabing. 1,250 students from 70 nations attend the IB World School. Under the motto "Believe. Inspire. Succeed", students enjoy a holistic, personalised and innovative education in English. The Vice Principal serves as a key member of the campus leadership team, responsible for supporting strategic initiatives and daily organisational operations alongside the Principal. This role requires a hands-on approach to academic management, sharing responsibilities with the PYP Coordinator for facilitating collaborative planning, curriculum review, and pedagogical enhancements. The Vice Principal is an integral member of the cross-campus primary and whole-school leadership teams.
General Leadership & Operations

Work with the Principal and campus leadership to ensure the Primary School reflects the BIS philosophy and effectively implements the school’s purpose and commitments are implemented

To work with the Primary School Principal to foster a culture of inclusion, respect, and belonging for all students, staff, and families

Maintain a highly visible, approachable profile of positive leadership

Attend and actively contribute to Pedagogical Leadership Team, Whole School Leadership, and Primary School Academic Council meetings

Deputise for the Principal in their absence and undertake areas of delegation, reporting regularly on progress

Support the Principal with the staff appraisal process, holding direct responsibility for supervising assigned staff members

Play a constructive role in the hiring and selection of new staff, as well as whole-school policy development

Support the organisation and facilitation of staff induction and orientation, ensuring a smooth transition for new faculty

Manage daily operational logistics, including the coordination of staff substitutions, duty rosters, and updating the weekly staff memo

Support the planning of residential trips, including risk assessments and required meetings with parents, chaperones, and the health department

Support the Principal in preparing regular campus reports for the Executive Board and implementing emergency protocols

Maintain high ethical standards, promoting morale, engagement, belonging, and strict confidentiality
Curriculum & Pedagogical Leadership-
Support curriculum leadership and coordination to ensure the effective implementation of the IB Primary Years Programme in delegated areas

Champion transdisciplinary learning, concept-driven inquiry, and student agency as the foundation of the school's learning culture

Lead the primary school’s enrichment strategy, designing, executing, and promoting a robust program aligned with the PYP framework

Partner with the PYP Coordinator to align duties and ensure all IB programmatic expectations, standards, and evaluation recommendations are met

Provide direct coaching and guide the team's focus on inclusive pedagogical practices, including differentiation and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Planning & Documenting-
Facilitate collaborative planning meetings, ensuring curriculum and assessment are accessible through differentiation and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

Collaborate with the PYP Coordinator and relevant committees on the writing, review, and development of curriculum documentation

Coordinate, maintain, and update parent, staff, and academic handbooks alongside staff reference resources
Teaching, Coaching & Mentoring-
Model best practices in teaching and learning through co-planning, co-teaching, and modelling classroom methodology

Coach, mentor, and inspire faculty and staff to grow, challenge themselves, and develop their instructional practices

Carry out effective classroom observations and provide constructive, growth-oriented feedback

Undertake specific teaching duties as required by the Primary School Principal

Oversee the inventory of educational resources to facilitate efficient staff collaboration
Assessing & Evaluating-
Line manage and guide assigned teams in developing high-quality, outcomes-aligned assessments throughout the planning cycle

Lead and account for grade-level and department teams, facilitating regular moderation meetings to ensure robust horizontal and vertical assessment articulation

Oversee direct reports to ensure essential agreements for assessment and evidencing learning are rigorously formulated, implemented, and maintained across all areas of responsibility

Manage and hold teams accountable for the accurate setup, coordination, and proofreading of student academic reports
Student Support & Community Engagement-
Oversee and resolve escalated student behavior issues, designing targeted interventions to maintain a positive, safe, and disciplined school culture

Oversee student leadership structures and participate regularly in Primary School assemblies.

Serve as a point of contact for community questions and concerns, meeting with parents, students and staff members to foster strong connections
Wellbeing & Belonging-
To ensure the ongoing development of the IB Learner Profile and PSPE curriculum to integrate and embed social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies explicitly

To champion student voice initiatives and create leadership opportunities that empower students to contribute to the school community

To support the development of student and parent affinity groups

To manage student discipline, ensuring it is grounded in restorative practices and focused on learning and growth

To analyse behaviour data to identify trends and implement proactive, preventative support systems

Significant teaching experience within the IB PYP framework, with a firm grasp of the IB continuum

Proven experience in educational leadership, curriculum management, and successfully leading institutional change

Demonstrated ability to develop, lead, inspire, and build trust among colleagues and the wider school community

A solution-focused mindset paired with excellent interpersonal and written/oral English communication skills
