ROLE SUMMARY:
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Director, Diagnostics Revenue to join our organization. Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller you will be responsible for overseeing revenue recognition, revenue cycle operations, and financial reporting processes related to our Lucent Diagnostics business. This role ensures compliance with accounting standards (e.g. ASC 606), regulatory requirements, and internal financial policies. As the Director, Diagnostics Revenue, you will lead the creation and development of the Diagnostics Revenue Team.
The Diagnostics Revenue Team is responsible for revenue and revenue cycle operations, month end closes, technical accounting analyses for revenue contracts, and maintaining related internal controls. This role is highly visible across the organization, working with leadership in Diagnostics, Customer Service, Legal, and Marketing to provide strategic guidance on contract structure, revenue and reimbursement optimization, and compliance with U.S. GAAP. You will also partner with our Diagnostic Laboratory, FP&A, and SOX teams to support accurate revenue capture, reporting, and financial analysis.
This is a unique opportunity to be the accounting lead for our new diagnostics business.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Serve as the subject matter expert on Diagnostics technical revenue accounting matters, providing guidance to finance leadership, legal, and commercial teams, ensuring best practices, and educating stakeholders.
- Hire and lead a team of revenue accountants and revenue cycle specialists. Provide guidance and development. Work with team to help drive a deeper understanding of global revenue recognition and billing / reimbursement best practices.
- Lead the interpretation and application of revenue recognition standards, including ASC 606, for related to Lucent Diagnostics.
- Analyze payer contracts (commercial insurers, government payers, direct-to-consumer, hospital contracts) for: variable consideration, reimbursement constraints, price concessions, denial trends.
- Develop deep and audit ready contractual allowance and revenue models that support revenue accruals. Establish and maintain comprehensive database of claims and payer fundamentals.
- Develop and maintain revenue accounting policies related to diagnostics, complex payer arrangements, customer contracts & revenue cycle practices.
- Analyze complex transactions, new service offerings & customer contracts to determine appropriate accounting treatment.
- Prepare technical accounting memos and documentation supporting diagnostic revenue recognition policies and complex accounting issues.
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition across multiple payer types including Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and self-pay.
- Review health care claims processing data for accurate and compliant revenue recognition.
- Partner with diagnostic teams to ensure accurate revenue capture and reporting.
- Develop standardized metrics for reporting out to Accounting and Diagnostics leadership.
- Review and optimize revenue workflows related to reimbursement, and contract pricing.
- Provide accounting guidance for new diagnostic tests and pricing models.
- Oversee revenue accounting close processes related diagnostics.
- Monitor revenue analytics, volumes, test mix, payer mix, denial rates, and reimbursement trends to develop models and databases for estimate-to-actual analysis, especially for variable consideration. Analysis will support monthly revenue close for key judgmental areas including accruals, bad debt, and adjustments to variable consideration.
- Proactively research changes in accounting standards and current trends in revenue recognition to ensure accounting compliance and appropriate disclosures.
- Support revenue related disclosures and the preparation/review of revenue footnote schedules associated with SEC filings.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive internal controls, policies, and procedures and collaborate with the SOX Transformation team to develop, review, and enhance controls.
- Oversee the preparation of all external audit requests throughout the quarterly reviews and annual audit.
- Enhance the company’s use of its revenue cycle management platform and serve as the subject matter expert for the implementation of diagnostics revenue processes and controls in the ERP.
- Manage ad hoc projects, as needed
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 14+ years of experience or a Master’s degree in accounting or finance with 10+ years of experience
- 10+ years of experience in revenue accounting under ASC 606, US GAAP, and SOX for publicly traded companies
- 8+ years of managerial experience leading a team
- 8+ years of experience in the revenue accounting and revenue cycle for a health care / diagnostics provider, including third party reimbursement and complex ‘gross to net’ analyses
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPA license is strongly preferred
- 4+ years of progressive experience in an audit / assurance role with SEC clients at a ‘Big 4’ public accounting firm
- Exceptional technical accounting background with a thorough knowledge of US GAAP, SOX and SEC reporting standards, as well as experience with research and preparation of accounting position papers for complex revenue transactions
- Experience collaborating with sales and legal teams, including cross-functional initiatives that include direct and indirect reports
- Thorough understanding of SEC reporting and ASC 606 disclosure requirements for 10-Q’s and 10-K’s
- Experience with medical billing systems (Quadex) and automated data flow (TMIT & Snowflake)
- Experience with Oracle Fusion
