- Driving innovative AI research through the development and implementation, practical application, theoretical analysis and evaluation of AI and explainability algorithms
- Implementation of deep learning and multi-agent systems
- Improvement of models, e.g. in terms of efficiency, training performance or inference behavior
- Use of XAI tools to ensure exaplainability and trustworthiness of machine learning models
What you contribute
- Enrolled Bachelor's/Master's student in full-time studies in the fields of computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering or related courses with good to very good grades
- Programming experience, especially good to very good knowledge of Python
- Experience with machine learning, in particular with neural networks and their implementation (PyTorch, TensorFlow or similar)
- Familiarity with the current state of the art in AI and machine learning
- Motivation, initiative, and an independant working style
- Residence in Berlin and the surrounding area, as the position is carried out exclusively on-site to enable close collaboration
- Interest in Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI); potential topics include, among others (feel free to reference in your cover letter):
- XAI for Computer Vision (in particular object detection and semantic segmentation models)
- XAI for Large Language Models (LLMs)
- XAI for Multi-Agent Systems (MAS)
- Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) and Operator Learning
- Applications of trustworthy AI (e.g. robust modelling of semiconductors and RF power devices)
- Data Attribution Methods
- Method development in the areas of: local feature attribution, global and mechanistic interpretability
- Interpretability-based model improvement (e.g., bias detection and mitigation)

The position is initially limited to 1 year. An extension is explicitly desired.
The monthly working time is 80 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
