The Field Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and expanding euNetworks' fiber infrastructure. The role involves hands‑on tasks such as OTDR measurements, splicing and carrying out installation and expansion projects in the field and in data centres. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure high network availability and quality.
Your responsibilities / challenges
- Maintenance & Upkeep: Responsible for preventive maintenance of passive fiber infrastructure (routes, splice closures, distribution points) to ensure maximum network uptime.
- Network Expansion & Build-out: Expand existing infrastructure by installing high‑fiber‑count backbone cables, building new fiber POPs, commissioning new fiber SPANs, etc.
- Troubleshooting: Locate complex faults using OTDR measurements and rectify them professionally by fusion splicing or cable replacement.
- Infrastructure Survey & Asset Recording: Conduct detailed on‑site surveys and accurately document the current condition as the basis for audits and expansions.
- Acceptance Testing & Quality Assurance: Perform acceptance measurements according to euNetworks standards and requirements to ensure highest quality levels.
- Project Participation: Take responsibility for correct installation and implementation on national and international large‑scale projects; quality management, time management and efficient working are key.
- Operational Partner Coordination: Cooperate on an operational level with dedicated partners and their field technicians to successfully deliver new assignments together.
- On‑call Duty: Participate in a rotating 24/7 on‑call roster to ensure network stability in this critical infrastructure area.
- Varied Work Environment: Work alternately in modern data centres (colocation) and in public areas at manholes and duct systems, including the fiber infrastructure within them.
- What you should bring
- Qualifications: Completed technical training (e.g., IT systems electronics, telecommunications engineering, electrical trades, etc.) or equivalent specialised further training with proven professional experience in fiber infrastructure.
- Personality: Strong, responsible personality who remains composed in critical situations.
- Manner: Polite demeanour and strong service orientation when dealing with our demanding international customers.
- Project Mindset: Highly efficient working style with an understanding of time‑ and budget‑critical projects.
- Mobility: Valid driving licence class B required, BE preferred.
- Languages: Very good German and at least basic English.
