The Bavarian International School gAG (BIS) is a private, non-profit all-day school with two campuses in the north of Munich (Haimhausen) and in Schwabing. 1,250 students from 70 nations attend the IB World School. Under the motto "Believe. Inspire. Succeed", students enjoy a holistic, personalised and innovative education in English. Intercultural competence, cooperative learning, global responsibility and international mindedness characterise the philosophy of BIS with around 240 teachers and staff.
This position is part-time (80%), initially for one year, and can be combined with a teaching assignment.
The Vice Principal serves as a key member of the campus leadership team, responsible for supporting campus-wide strategic initiatives and daily organisational operations alongside the Principal. This role requires a hands-on approach to academic management, sharing responsibilities with the PYP Coordinator for facilitating collaborative planning, curriculum review and pedagogical enhancements. The Vice Principal is also an integral member of the cross-campus and whole school leadership teams.

Work with the Primary School Principal to maintain a visible and approachable profile of positive leadership

Support the Primary School Principal, attend Pedagogical Leadership Team meetings and Whole School Leadership team meetings, as required

Active member of the City Campus PSCT (Primary School Curriculum Team)

Work with the Primary School Principal and the Haimhausen Primary leadership to ensure that the Primary School reflects the BIS philosophy and to ensure that the school’s purpose and commitments are implemented

Support curriculum leadership, management and coordination, including the effective implementation of the IB Primary Years Programme

Prepare and submit documentation required for evaluation

Support the organisation, and facilitation of, the induction and orientation weeks

Support new staff in their transition to the BIS teaching environment

Identify pedagogical Professional Development opportunities for staff including workshops, site visits, curriculum development and participation in professional networks

Organise onsite professional development for staff and parents
-
Keep up to date with curriculum developments through professional reading and participating in professional development opportunities. * Champion transdisciplinary learning, concept-driven inquiry, and student agency as the foundation of the school’s learning culture

Promote a positive, innovative and professional learning culture

Manage, support and facilitate alignment with the PYP Coordinator’s duties and responsibilities to ensure all IB programmatic expectations are met

CURRICULUM
Planning-
Facilitate weekly collaborative planning meetings as agreed with the Principal and PYP coordinator to ensure the development and successful implementation of the Programme of Inquiry to ensure all expectations are covered

Work alongside the Haimhausen Campus staff in the management of the Grade 5 (PYP) to Grade 6 (MYP) transition programme

Attend and contribute to the Learning Support meetings
Documenting-
Work collaboratively with the PYP Coordinator/committees/teams in the writing, review and development of curriculum documentation

Coordinate, maintain, and update parent, staff, and academic handbooks
-
Maintain, review and update staff reference resources, including the BIS Primary Curriculum Review Cycle
Teaching-
Coach, mentor and support the staff with curriculum planning, curriculum implementation and classroom methodology

Ensure implementation of best practices in teaching and learning through modelling, co-teaching and co-planning

Carry out effective classroom observations and related feedback

Undertake teaching duties as required by the Primary School Principal

Model the ability to inspire faculty and staff to grow and challenge themselves, individually and as group
Resourcing-
Oversee the inventory of resources to facilitate efficient collaboration
Assessing-
Inform, assist and support the staff to develop high-quality assessments during planning, directly related to curriculum outcomes

Facilitate meetings with grade-level and department teams to moderate assessments for both horizontal and vertical articulation purposes

Ensure that essential agreements for assessment and evidencing learning are formulated for all areas of learning

Setup, coordinate and proof read student reports
Evaluating-
Evaluate and further the curriculum being offered at BIS in accordance with the IB programmes Standards and Practices, meeting the recommendations from recent evaluations., in collaboration with the Primary School Principal

Support the Principal in the appraisal process, with a responsibility with assigned staff to discuss their goals and progress

Play a constructive role in the hiring and selection of new staff for City Campus

Play a constructive role in whole school policy development

Support planning of residential trips, risk assessments and meetings with parents, chaperones and the health department beforehand

Be the first point of contact for the office regarding questions about substitution and duties

Oversee processes related to academic student issues and concerns

Oversee student leadership structures

Participate regularly in Primary School assemblies

Be a point of contact for community questions and concern meeting with parents as needed

Liaise on issues related to AI for City Campus

Assist the Principal during the implementation of emergency protocols

Teaching experience in the PYP Programme
