Working Student – Quantitative Research & Software Development (m/f/d)
About the role
We are a single family office. One part of our work focuses on quantitative stock strategies — researching trading ideas, testing them against historical data, and operating the software that generates the live insights our trading decisions are based on. We are looking for a working student to join this team.
You would work in a small team alongside one other working student and one supervisor. This is deliberately not a large corporate environment, and the experience differs accordingly: rather than a defined seat in a big organisation, you can expect to contribute meaningfully from the outset. Motivated candidates will find genuine room to shape the projects with their own input. In return, we ask for flexibility, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work within existing structures and processes.
Responsibilities
The core of the role is Python-based research and backtesting. Your work will include:
- Researching and testing trading strategies against historical data
- Implementing strategy concepts in Python
- Supporting the operation and maintenance of our live software
- Over time, contributing to server administration, software deployment, and the maintenance of our Django-based web interface
- Producing clear reports and documentation
Python and backtesting form the foundation of the position. Prior experience with the remaining areas — servers, deployment, Django — is not required, provided you are willing to learn them.
Your profile
- Strong Python skills (essential)
- Confidence working with structured data, supported by a solid understanding of basic statistics
- Working proficiency in English, the primary language of our day-to-day work
- A self-directed approach and a genuine interest in learning new tools and methods
Desirable, but not required
- Knowledge of finance or trading
- German language skills (an asset within a German company, though the role operates in English)
- Experience with Linux servers, software deployment, or Django
What we offer
- A working student position (Werkstudent) of 15–20 hours per week, with highly flexible working hours
- Mostly remote work, with one weekly on-site team meeting (Mondays) at our office in Darmstadt near Ostbahnhof
- Early responsibility and the opportunity to influence projects from day one
- Compensation based on your experience and skills
Application
Please send us your CV along with a brief note on why the role appeals to you. We welcome links to relevant work — coursework, personal projects, or anything demonstrating your experience with Python and data.
