About Us
ECOTA and Plastiks have joined forces in a pioneering initiative to develop the world’s first carbon credit for plastics recycling. Bringing together ECOTA's expertise in carbon credit markets and Plastiks' established plastic recovery credit system - along with our large network of existing clients - we are building a powerful mechanism to financially incentivize the use of recycled plastics. By accurately measuring the reduced carbon footprint of recycled materials compared to virgin plastic production, we aim to transform the economics of sustainability.
We are a small, close-knit team deeply committed to environmental impact. We are looking for an analytical and motivated Working Student to join our joint task force and help us build the rigorous scientific backbone of our methodology.
The Role
As a Working Student focusing on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Carbon Accounting, you will play a critical role in shaping how we measure the environmental impact of PET recycling. You will dive deep into emissions data, research potential methodological blind spots, and help us ensure our carbon credits are backed by rigorous, trustworthy science.
Key Responsibilities
- LCA Construction: Evaluate existing LCAs and construct new, robust assessments for PET recycling, with a special focus on the European market.
- Baseline Development: Research, compute, and develop baseline emissions for virgin plastic production across different global regions.
- Leakage & Additionality Research: Investigate sources of "leakage" and evaluate "additionality" to seamlessly integrate these critical factors into our emissions accounting models.
- Data Management: Work directly with various LCA databases to extract data, evaluate findings, and ensure our methodology remains highly credible.
- Collaborative Innovation: Work closely with our small team to refine and expand our overarching carbon accounting methodology.
- Field Work: Participate in potential on-site visits to recycling facilities to gain practical insights and ground your research in real-world operations.
- Conduct research and technical analyses to support Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies and contribute to the development, refinement, and continuous improvement of the joint ECOTA–PLASTIKS methodology.
- Prepare technical documentation, methodological reports, and supporting technical materials to facilitate methodology development, validation, verification, and continuous improvement processes.
Your Profile
- Education: Currently enrolled as an advanced undergraduate or Master’s student in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and carbon emission accounting is highly desirable.
- Industry Insight: Knowledge of plastics production and recycling processes is a strong plus.
- Motivated Learner: If you lack direct experience in LCA or carbon accounting, you must possess a strong, demonstrable willingness to quickly learn and develop these competencies.
- Work Style: Analytical, research-driven, and excited to tackle complex environmental challenges alongside a tight-knit team in a fast-paced startup environment.
