Position Overview
The Senior Field Service Engineer II – Industrial Equipment is responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and technical support of ULVAC industrial equipment throughout the EMEA region and occasionally worldwide.
The role combines strong hands-on mechanical and electrical expertise with customer-facing responsibilities and independent problem-solving capabilities. The engineer acts as a technical expert for industrial vacuum, coating, thermal processing, and related equipment, supporting customers throughout the entire equipment lifecycle.
A strong focus lies on field-based service activities, customer support, troubleshooting, equipment upgrades, and ensuring high equipment availability and customer satisfaction.
This position requires a proactive, self-driven mindset with strong ownership, technical competence, and the ability to work independently in demanding customer environments.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
- Perform installation and commissioning of ULVAC industrial equipment at customer sites
- Execute start-up activities and verify equipment performance
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
- Support customer handover and operational qualification activities
- Coordinate installation activities with customers and internal departments
Service & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, and process-related equipment issues
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities
- Execute equipment upgrades, modifications, and retrofits
- Support emergency breakdown situations and minimize customer downtime
- Prepare detailed service reports and technical documentation
- Escalate and coordinate complex technical issues when required
- Customer Support & Technical Interface
- Act as technical point of contact for customers during service activities
- Conduct operator and maintenance training
- Support customers with technical recommendations and best practices
- Build strong customer relationships through professional service delivery
- Support spare parts recommendations and service-related quotations
- Act as interface between customers, Field Service, Sales, Engineering, and ULVAC Japan
Workshop & Internal Support
- Support workshop activities when not travelling
- Assist with equipment preparation and testing
- Share technical knowledge and best practices within the Field Service team
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and service process optimization
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge management
- Process & Performance Responsibility
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation
- Ensure compliance with service procedures and quality standards
- Monitor equipment performance and identify improvement opportunities
- Support achievement of service KPIs and customer satisfaction targets
- Contribute to safe working practices and compliance with customer requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Technical education or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or similar
- Several years of experience as a Field Service Engineer, Service Technician, Commissioning Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or similar role in an industrial environment
- Hands-on experience with industrial vacuum systems is required
- Several years of experience working on industrial equipment such as coating systems, thermal processing equipment, furnaces, leak detection systems, industrial automation systems, laboratory equipment, or comparable machinery
- Experience in semiconductor equipment is considered an advantage but is not mandatory
- Strong experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
- Experience with installation and commissioning activities
- Experience working independently at customer sites
- Experience in international and customer-facing environments
- Willingness to travel extensively
- Willingness to relocate to the Munich area
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with semiconductor equipment and cleanroom environments
- Experience with coating technologies
- Experience with thermal processing equipment and furnaces
- Experience with leak detection systems
- Experience with industrial automation and PLC systems
- Experience with robotics and motion control systems
- Experience with manufacturing or production equipment
- German language skills
Department: Field Service
Location: Office-based with extensive customer site visits
Travel: 75% (can be more at times)
