(Senior) Engineer, Software IVV Test & Integration, IRIS2
PROGRAMME description
IRIS² is the new European Union secure satellite communications constellation. This project is the European Union's answer to the pressing challenges of tomorrow to provide secure connectivity services and enhanced communication capacities to the EU and its Member States as well as to governmental users, private companies and European citizens while ensuring high-speed internet broadband to cope with connectivity dead zones.
SES – together with other consortium partners and core members – was selected by European Commission to build and to operate the IRIS² multi-orbit satellite constellation.
The IRIS² team enters the next project phase and there is a strong need for support for all the activities around service provisioning and products that the system can offer in the future.
Role description summary
Work requirements
The Software IVV Test and Integration Engineer is responsible for software integration, verification and validation of MCC/SMO components, O-RAN interfaces and end-to-end 5G-NTN orchestration workflows. The role includes defining test strategies, preparing test plans and automation, validating APIs and ICDs, integrating software subcomponents, troubleshooting defects, generating test evidence and supporting system acceptance across MCC, SMO, SDN-C, GW Manager, OSS/BSS, RAN and Core environments.
General work requirements
Define and execute software integration, verification and validation strategies for MCC/SMO subcomponents, O-RAN interfaces and 5G-NTN orchestration workflows.
Prepare test plans, test cases, test automation scripts and acceptance evidence covering API testing, system testing, interface testing and end-to-end workflow validation.
Integrate and validate MCC/SMO interfaces with SDN-C, GW Manager, OSS/BSS, RAN, Core and related orchestration or management functions.
Validate ICDs, interface assumptions, functional requirements, non-functional requirements, error handling, alarms, events, logs and operational procedures during integration campaigns.
Identify integration risks, troubleshoot defects, support defect management, coordinate technical clarification with vendors and contribute to system acceptance readiness.
Qualifications Background and Experience
Qualification Basis
Master's degree in engineering or science, preferably in Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience in telecom software IVV, system integration, validation labs, vendor integration or acceptance testing required; for Senior Engineer, 8+ years of relevant industry experience is desirable.
Strong skills in software integration, verification and validation, test strategy definition, test automation, API testing, system testing, troubleshooting and defect management.
Good understanding of MCC/SMO architecture, 5G-NTN, O-RAN interfaces, RAN/Core integration, SDN-C, GW Manager, OSS/BSS interactions and end-to-end orchestration workflows.
Essential experience
Hands-on experience integrating software components, executing IVV campaigns, defining test procedures, automating test cases, performing API testing and validating system behavior against requirements.
Experience validating interfaces and ICDs between MCC, SMO, SDN-C, GW Manager, OSS/BSS, RAN, Core and other orchestration or management subsystems.
Knowledge of 5G-NTN, O-RAN/SMO concepts, RAN/Core integration principles, management interfaces, service orchestration workflows and telecom system acceptance practices.
Experience with troubleshooting, log analysis, defect reproduction, defect reporting, root-cause analysis, regression testing and coordination of fixes with software and vendor teams.
Ability to generate clear test evidence, integration reports, risk assessments, acceptance inputs and recommendations supporting architecture, procurement and system deployment decisions.
Highly desirable experience (several of the following):
Experience with test automation frameworks, API clients, REST/gRPC validation, NETCONF/YANG testing, message bus testing, CI/CD pipelines, Linux environments, containers and observability tools.
Knowledge of telecom integration environments involving MCC, SMO, O-RAN interfaces, 5G Core interactions, RAN labs, protocol simulators, traffic generators and end-to-end orchestration test benches.
Experience supporting vendor integration, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, system qualification, issue triage, regression campaigns and formal acceptance reviews.
Experience contributing to RFP/RFQ technical annexes, test and acceptance requirements, interface clarification, vendor technical evaluation, gap analysis and integration planning.
