Build the data foundation that powers KoRo's AI and decisions
KoRo isn't a food company that happens to have data. We're a data company that happens to sell delicious, better-for-you food. Our edge has never been a single hero product, it's the engine behind it: 2.5m+ direct customer relationships, 50+ attributes per customer, 7m+ transactions, 200k+ reviews, and a test-and-learn loop that validates winners online before we scale them into retail in under six months.
Today that engine runs on strong analytics and sharp instincts & and mostly on our D2C data. The next frontier is connecting it: one intelligent view of the customer across D2C and retail, and a data model that captures how customers, products, and channels actually relate. AI is only as good as the data underneath it and that data is your domain.
As Director Data & AI Readiness (m/f/d), you own the foundation: a trusted, connected, AI-ready data layer, the omni-channel customer intelligence built on top of it, and the self-service capability that lets every team work with data without waiting in a queue. You're the enabler and multiplier you make great data and AI possible across KoRo, rather than being the bottleneck everything routes through.
Your responsibilities:
-
Own the data strategy: Define a multi-year roadmap focused on capability: the data foundations, models, and ways of working that unlock value across the whole company, the platform our AI, analytics, and decisions are built on.
-
Build the self-service backbone: Make clean, trusted, well-modeled data available where teams work. Stand up self-service analytics and BI so a product manager can validate an idea or a marketer can segment an audience without a ticket and a two-week wait.
-
Deliver AI-ready data: Make sure our data is structured, governed, and accessible enough that the AI Director and teams can build on it with confidence with the right pipelines, features, and access patterns so AI use cases aren't bottlenecked by messy or missing data.
-
Build omni-channel customer intelligence: Connect D2C and retail signals into one trustworthy view of the customer and the journey across online and shelf with identity resolution, unified segmentation, and the foundations for understanding how channels reinforce each other.
-
Pioneer graph-based data approaches: Model customers, products, channels, and behaviors as the connected graph they actually are on a foundation richer than flat tables that powers affinity and basket intelligence, recommendation, trend propagation, and downstream AI use cases.
-
Set the guardrails: Data governance, quality, privacy, and EU/GDPR-compliant customer-data use.
-
Lead and grow the data team: You'll shape the structure (data engineering, analytics, platform, embedded analysts), hire and develop talent, and raise the bar on craft and enablement.
-
Be the translator: Turn commercial questions into data capabilities and data capabilities into business value across every function.
-
Minimum 10-15 years leading data, analytics, or platform functions: ideally in D2C, e-commerce, retail, or consumer goods, in a fast-scaling environment.
-
A track record of building data platforms and self-service capability that let other teams move faster. You measure success by what the org ships, not only what your team ships.
-
Strong technical fluency (you can go deep with engineers on architecture, pipelines, and tooling) paired with genuine commercial judgment.
-
Hands-on familiarity with omni-channel / multi-source customer data (unifying online and offline signals, identity resolution) and with graph data approaches (graph databases, knowledge or customer graphs, recommendation/affinity) or the clear appetite and ability to build them.
-
Experience standing up data governance, quality, and privacy practices that enable rather than block.
-
Proven ability to drive adoption & getting non-technical teams to actually use the tools and trust the data.
-
Experience building and leading high-performing teams, plus the maturity to prioritize and say no.
-
A pragmatic, build-fast-and-validate mindset that fits our test-and-learn culture.
-
Fluent English; German is a plus.
-
Impact & Influence: A genuine C-1 level role with direct influence. You will shape how a 350-person company operates and scales.
-
C-Level Alignment: Direct access to a C-Level team that already integrates AI (like Claude) into daily operations. No convincing required at the top – we speak the same language.
-
Autonomy & Budget: Full trust, budget, and freedom to build the exact team, processes, and tech toolset you need to succeed.
-
Stability & Growth: You join a profitable, growing business that has both the resources to invest and the strategic discipline to focus.
-
The Essentials: Flexible working hours, a hybrid model, and a modern office in Berlin. Plus, the usual perks like 28+ days of vacation, a MacBook, fitness subsidies (Urban Sports Club, FitX or Hansefit), and KoRo discounts. But let’s be honest – those aren't the reasons why you’d take this job.
For us, it's not just about the what, but above all about the how. You'll be a perfect fit for us if you have the following mindset:
-
You take initiative and ownership. You don't wait for a perfect brief or a mandate to get started. When you see an opportunity, a risk, or something that can be improved - you act. When things don't go as planned, you look at your own contribution first and step up, without waiting to be asked.
-
You thrive in change. Shifting priorities and evolving processes don't slow you down. You adapt fast and keep moving.
-
You build, you don't wait. When something is missing - a tool, a process, a solution - you create it. You prefer a working MVP over a perfect plan and iterate from there.
-
You think in leverage. You question how things are done, prioritize ruthlessly, and find smarter paths to better outcomes. You don't mistake effort for impact.
-
You're a team player, humble and genuinely kind. You collaborate in and across teams, care about the people around you, and bring sparkles to the room. You speak up when you disagree, commit fully once a decision is made, and actively make the people around you better.
