What to Expect
Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg marks a defining moment in Europe for Tesla’s mission of building a world of amazing abundance. Here we will launch revolutionary products on a massive scale, using extraordinary speed, innovation, and efficiency. Our employees will ensure that we achieve our goals, and we welcome you to help us write the next chapter of our success story.
The Gigafactory Design and Construction Team is looking for a versatile and tech-savvy VDC Engineer (Survey & Reality Capture). This role requires a professional with a solid foundation in traditional surveying who has a strong passion for LiDAR and reality capture technologies. Working within an agile and lean digital delivery framework, you will be one of the key stakeholders between the physical site and our digital models. You must understand the built environment (infrastructure experience is highly valued) and be highly adaptable, seamlessly switching between high-precision surveying and large-scale 3D scanning based on project demands. We value pragmatic problem-solvers who prioritize delivering actionable, accurate data today over theoretical perfection tomorrow, while maintaining the highest standards of professional ethics and teamwork.
What You'll Do
Seamlessly switch between traditional construction surveying tasks and reality capture (3D scanning) projects based on the immediate needs of the engineering and construction teams.
Operate and maintain both terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) and mobile mapping systems (SLAM-based scanners) across active construction and infrastructure environments.
Conduct the post-processing, registration, and geo-referencing of raw scan data to produce highly accurate, coordinate-correct point clouds for the BIM and design teams. The candidate should have the ability to work with set systems for these processes and suggest improvements as necessary.
Assist with establishing, maintaining, and verifying site control networks. Work could involve performing precise set-out and layout for civil, structural, and architectural components.
Rapidly process and deliver survey data, layout files, and deviation reports to ensure construction teams are never delayed, embracing a "lean and agile" workflow. Candidate should be adept at engaging with stakeholders effectively throughout the process and focus on delivering a finished product.
Work transparently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Uphold strict team ethics—including punctuality, honesty, and a commitment to doing things the right way without taking detrimental shortcuts.
What You'll Bring
Degree in Geomatics, Surveying Engineering (Vermessungswesen), Civil Engineering, or a completed technical apprenticeship with relevant field experience.
3+ years of hands-on experience in construction surveying or infrastructure projects, with a proven track record of utilizing LiDAR capture technologies.
Proficiency with traditional survey instruments (Total Stations, GPS/GNSS) as well as terrestrial and mobile (SLAM) 3D laser scanners.
Strong knowledge base in Autodesk Civil 3D and Autodesk ReCap. Experience with additional processing software (e.g., Leica Cyclone, Trimble Perspective/Access) is highly advantageous.
A strong understanding of construction processes, civil infrastructure, and how physical elements translate into digital models.
Strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. You must be comfortable making decisions, learning from mistakes, and adapting your course to deliver functional results quickly.
Excellent communication skills in English. German language skills (B2 preferred) are a significant advantage for on-site coordination.
Additional Requirements:
Language of operation is English.
The position will be based at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, in Grünheide
