The »Center Nanoelectronic Technologies« (CNT) conducts research on 300 mm wafers at the "An der Bartlake" site, serving microchip manufacturers, suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and R&D partners. In its cleanrooms and laboratories, the team develops processes and technologies at Ultra Large Scale Integration (ULSI) level for the front end of line (FEoL) and back end of line (BEoL) of various CMOS technology nodes.

- Electrical characterization & reliability analysis: You put integrated memory devices and ferroelectric transistors to the test, precisely, repeatably, and with dependable results.
- Data evaluation & process optimization: Measurement results are examined systematically, weak spots are identified, and concrete steps for improvement are defined.
- Development of characterization methods: You refine existing approaches and help establish new ones so that they keep up with advanced technological requirements.
- Technology & material research: Together with the team, you investigate promising new materials and process routes and thus contribute directly to innovation in this field.
- Test structure design & coordination: You help lay out the test structures needed for the measurements and align all requirements to keep everything compatible and efficient.
- Reporting & team collaboration: Findings are documented professionally and discussed actively with the development team to move projects forward.
These tasks can be completed as part of an internship or as a bachelor's, master's, or diploma thesis. Ideally, the thesis is combined with an internship.
What you contribute
- Academic background: You are studying electrical engineering, materials science, physics, microsystems technology, mechanical engineering, or a comparable technical or scientific subject and are working toward your bachelor's or master's degree.
- Electrical measurement methods: The fundamentals are familiar to you, and it is an advantage if you have already applied them hands-on in a laboratory, for example during initial characterization work.
- Memory devices & ferroelectric technologies: Ideally, you have worked with semiconductor memories before or have had some exposure to ferroelectric materials, ferroelectric transistors, or comparable technologies. Such a background makes it easier to get into our research topics quickly.
- Solid-state physics & semiconductor technology: Knowledge in these disciplines is welcome, as is the motivation to build up your expertise in this direction.
- Motivation & working style: Highly motivated, you tackle your tasks independently and practically, always in a structured and goal-oriented way.
- Initiative & teamwork: Curiosity and a good deal of own initiative characterize your work, and you enjoy achieving results together with others.
- Communication: Strong English skills at C1 level or above, both spoken and written. German is a plus.
This position is particularly well suited to students with a genuine interest in advanced memory technologies, in particular ferroelectric memory devices.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is temporary for the duration of the internship. The duration can be arranged flexibly according to agreement and possible study guidelines.
