International Student Support Assistant – Freelance
Location: Hamburg, Germany
University supported: University Targu Mures Medical Campus Hamburg (UMCH)
We are seeking a reliable and approachable Freelance International Student Support Assistant based in Hamburg. The successful candidate will provide practical, on-the-ground assistance to international students arriving in the city and beginning their studies at UMCH.
This is a flexible, assignment-based position suitable for someone who knows Hamburg well, communicates confidently and enjoys helping international students settle into a new city.
Key responsibilities:
* Meet students upon arrival at the airport, railway station or bus station.
* Accompany students to their accommodation.
* Assist students with university registration and administrative procedures.
* Help students obtain SIM cards, public transport cards and other essential local services.
* Support students with opening bank accounts when required.
* Assist with address registration and residence-related procedures.
* Provide an introduction to Hamburg, local transport and important services.
* Communicate with universities, landlords, banks and public offices when necessary.
* Submit or collect documents when authorised.
* Maintain accurate records and provide clear written updates after each assignment.
* Assist with other student-support tasks agreed upon in advance.
Requirements:
* Currently living in Hamburg or the surrounding area.
* Strong knowledge of Hamburg and its public transport system.
* Good written and spoken English.
* German language skills are strongly preferred.
* Reliable, organised and punctual.
* Confident communicating with students and local organisations.
* Available during weekdays when administrative appointments are required.
* Some evening or weekend availability may occasionally be needed.
* Previous experience in student support, customer service, administration or a similar role is an advantage.
* Knowledge of German registration and residence procedures is an advantage.
Compensation:
* €50 for supporting each student through the agreed standard arrival and settling-in services.
* €7 per hour for additional tasks approved in advance.
* Approved local travel expenses may be reimbursed when applicable.
Schedule:
This is a flexible freelance position. Assignments will depend on student arrival dates and support requirements. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible.
