About this opportunity
Are you passionate about supporting young people to achieve their ambitions and thrive as they move into adulthood?
We have an exciting opportunity for a committed, compassionate and motivated individual to join our Care Experienced Team as a Personal Advisor. This is a rewarding role where you will make a genuine difference to the lives of care experienced young people, helping them build confidence, independence and positive futures.
At Westmorland and Furness Council, we are ambitious for our young people. We celebrate their achievements, champion their aspirations and work alongside them to overcome barriers and achieve their goals. We are looking for someone who shares this commitment and who believes in the potential of every young person.
Who we are looking for…
As a Personal Advisor, you will provide advice, guidance and practical support to care experienced young people, predominantly aged 18 to 25, as they navigate the opportunities and challenges of adulthood. You will support young people to develop the skills, confidence and resilience they need to live independently and successfully, helping them access education, employment, training, accommodation, health services and community opportunities.
Positive, trusting relationships are at the heart of our work. As a Personal Advisor, you will build strong and supportive relationships with young people, providing consistent encouragement, advocacy and challenge when needed. You will be someone who listens, understands and remains focused on helping young people achieve the best possible outcomes.
Working through the Pathway Planning process, you will work collaboratively with young people, families and a range of partner agencies to coordinate purposeful support that is responsive to individual needs and aspirations. You will support a diverse group of care experienced young adults, including those who have arrived in the UK seeking asylum, ensuring your practice is inclusive, culturally sensitive and trauma-informed.
No two days are the same. One day you may be helping a young person secure accommodation, prepare for university or access employment opportunities; the next, you could be advocating on their behalf, attending multi-agency meetings or celebrating a significant achievement. Every day brings new opportunities to make a lasting difference.
If you are passionate about supporting care experienced young people, committed to relationship-based practice and motivated by helping young adults create bright and successful futures, we would love to hear from you.
