What to Expect
We are looking for a highly motivated engineer specializing in LMR radio network engineering to join our radio program globally. This will be the second dedicated role in this space, and you will have the support and backing to drive your initiatives across some of the world’s most unique and leading systems. This role reports directly to a Manager of Security Systems Engineering with a global purview, including travel of approximately 15%. Works with the lead Sr. LMR Engineer in Berlin, with some trips within the EU.
The Security Systems Engineering team is responsible for helping Tesla securely design, build, and operate infrastructure across corporate, manufacturing, and production environments. You will work on a broad set of efforts including the design and implementation of systems in new sites, ensuring survivability and resiliency is exceptional, driving the feature set forward, and researching the latest in LMR and LTE/5G communications. Our radio systems are life safety critical, and your work will focus heavily on ensuring our current and future states produce a highly trusted tool for our Security, EHS, and Production teams.

What You'll Do-
Services and maintains architecture and engineering work across all radio systems at Tesla

Participates in all radio-systems discussions with internal/external partners

Excellent troubleshooting abilities and the ability to learn on the go

Ensures seamless communication with public safety networks through technology and MOUs

Communicates clearly with engineering and executive leadership on the current state of radio and associated systems

Participates in technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements

Participates in customer requirements analysis, develops system requirements and defines allocations to lower levels (subsystem, elements, and components)

Executes evaluations of systems, networks, and information systems

Develops and maintains system documentation on both new and fielded systems

Synthesizes solutions to meet customer expectations and technical performance while staying within schedule and cost constraints

Effectively chooses the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products

Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments

Researches emergency technologies (such as LTE/5G CBRS), hybrid radios, etc.

Keeps abreast of technology trends and communicates these trends to partners

Assists other Security Engineering members at times to help execute team goals in dynamic fashion

Attend meetings that are early or late to match up with colleagues located all over the world
What You'll Bring-
Proficient in English (written and spoken); German language skills at B1+ level are preferred (not required)

0–2 years of hands-on experience with radio and RF systems, or equivalent experience demonstrated through amateur radio licensing, emergency communications volunteering, or academic projects

Experience with Motorola MOTOTRBO radio systems and integration workflows

Familiarity with dispatch and console system architecture, design, and deployment

Exposure to Motorola WAVE OnCloud and LMR Interoperability solutions

Solid understanding of IP networking fundamentals, including L2/L3 protocols, OSPF, UDP/TCP, firewalls, and CLI-based configuration

Competency in RF design and analysis methodologies

Knowledge of key RF subsystems, including receivers, exciters, transmitters, phased array antennas, and radar system components

Proven ability to coordinate and lead cross-functional engineering and technical teams
-
Experience with configuration management tools and established practices

Practical knowledge of test and measurement equipment: service monitors, power meters, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, DMMs, network analyzers, and signal generators

Strong grasp of RF design principles and practical testing techniques
