The Planetary Sciences and Remote Sensing research group at the Institute of Geological Sciences at the FU Berlin participates in various experiments in space missions of ESA, NASA and JAXA like Europa Clipper, JUICE or Destiny+. In our two laboratories we generate analogue data for these space missions. We are looking for a scientist with enthusiasm for space missions, ideally with experience in mass spectrometry and machine learning.

Job description:
- Recording of cation and anion mass spectra for a data base of analogue materials for the Surface Dust Analyser (SUDA) with the Laser Induced Liquid Beam Ion Desorption (LILBID) experiment in our laboratories.
- Improving the structure of the aforementioned data base together with an IT-expert for the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms for the automated analysis of the recorded mass spectra.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Planetary Sciences, Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Biology or Geology
Desirable:
- Good knowledge in the field of mass spectrometry
- Very good written and spoken English (B2/C1)
- Knowledge in the field of Planetary Sciences
- Experience in a chemistry of microbiology laboratory
- Experience with the use of lasers
- Experience with high voltage equipment and high vacuum techniques
