This Position reports to:
R&D Unit Lead
The work model for the role is: hybrid. / #LI-Hybrid
In this role, you will have the opportunity to drive the development of next-generation robotic systems with a clear focus on mechatronic dimensioning, analysis, and simulation. Each day, you will act as a technical leader and first point of contact in Research and Development (R&D) for in-depth dimensioning and optimization challenges related to collaborative robots. You will also showcase your expertise by driving mechatronic architecture decisions and shaping ABB's future robotic product platforms.
This role is contributing to the Robotics & Discrete Automation division in Europe, based in Gilching, Germany. Main stakeholders are the local development team in Gilching as well as ABB R&D teams in Sweden and China.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Driving dimensioning, analysis, and optimization of mechatronic components with respect to system dynamics, including proposals for transmission and power train components to shape the mechatronic architecture of next-generation robotic systems.
Taking technical leadership with solid competence, working in close collaboration with related departments and international R&D teams, while providing guidance and mentoring to colleagues and junior team members and sharing lessons learned.
You will join a dynamic, international, and high-performing team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of collaborative robotics — working in close collaboration across Gilching, Sweden, and China — where you will be able to thrive and make a tangible impact on next-generation robotic systems.
Qualifications for the role
You are highly skilled in multibody simulation, structural analysis, and mechatronic dimensioning, and enjoy working with cutting-edge robotics technology in the industrial automation market.
You are highly adept in simulation tools, preferably Dymola/Modelica, FEM software (preferably ANSYS), and CAD tools (preferably SolidWorks); knowledge of MATLAB and Python is highly recommended.
You hold an outstanding Master's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanics, or a comparable field, with proven experience in power train design and mechatronic system modelling.
Please note: in the case of equal suitability, people with severe disabilities and their equals are given preference.
