The internship assignment
As a Project Engineering Intern in the Tesla Paint Shop, you will play a critical role in supporting process improvement initiatives, equipment upgrades, and new technology implementation. Working alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, you’ll help drive efficiency, quality, and sustainability in one of the most advanced automative paint shops in the world.
What You'll Do

Collaborating with engineers to identify and solve production bottlenecks and inefficiencies.

Supporting process development and optimization projects focused on paint application, curing, and surface quality.

Assisting in the planning, coordination and execution of capital projects, including equipment installation and upgrades.

Analyzing production data and trends to identify areas for improvement and develop actionable solutions.

Creating and updating technical documentation, process maps, standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk assessments and project plans.

Working with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Controls to implement engineering solutions.

Participating in root cause analysis and failure mode analysis for equipment or process issues.

Contributing to Tesla’s mission by supporting sustainability and waste reduction efforts in paint shop processes.
What You'll Bring

Pursuing a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on, proactive approach.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment.

Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, preferably in automotive or paint applications.

Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Python, SQL) and CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Catia).

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in cross—functional teams.

Passion for sustainable manufacturing, automation and Tesla’s mission.

Fluent in English, German is a plus.
