(W2, Tenure Track W3)
in Advanced Scanning Probe
Techniques
at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural
Sciences
This is a tenure-track professorship for a five-year term leading to a ten-
ured W3 position. For further information about the tenure track process,

We are inviting applications for the position of full professor in the area of
advanced scanning probe techniques, to be filled as soon as possible.
The position calls for international visibility as well as in-depth knowledge
and experience in the field of advanced scanning probe methods. The
successful candidate is expected to conduct outstanding research focus-
ing on the development and application of low-temperature scanning
probe methods for investigating local electronic, magnetic and thermal
properties of solids. Methods of interest include the quantum twisting mi-
croscope, scanning NV-center techniques, scanning SQUID microscopy,
scanning thermal microscopy, and THz scanning tunnelling microscopy.
The successful applicant will strengthen the Cluster of Excellence Matter
and Light for Quantum Computing (ML4Q) and the research program on
quantum technologies and solid-state physics, including 2D materials re-
search, at RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich.
Participation in teaching activities in experimental physics at all levels is
required. Active engagement in academic self-governance is also ex-
pected.
The requirements include a doctoral degree and additional research ex-
perience, such as a habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) or
equivalent achievements gained as a university researcher or professor or
in a research position outside academia. Teaching ability and dedication
are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent Ger-
man is not required to start the position but will be expected as a
teaching language within the first 5 years.
