Work Environment
You will work in the dynamic and diverse field of interior functional design. The core focus of daily work is the simulation-based design of all interior components and assemblies with regard to crash performance, stiffness, and strength using finite element models (FEM). From seating systems and center consoles to door trims and cockpits, all assemblies are simulated, evaluated for release readiness, and optimized using FEM models.
A key component of these FEM models is the material data used to describe the employed materials. Conventional characterization of plastic material data for crash analysis is labor-intensive and time-consuming, often leading to tight timelines in development projects.
The focus of your role will be the development and implementation of a methodology for the use of surrogate models to enable fast and accurate determination of plastic material parameters for crash evaluation. We offer you the opportunity to contribute your knowledge and experience in mechanical material behavior of plastics alongside experienced specialists.
Job Purpose/Role
- You will create FEM models of material characterization tests
- You will take over the automation of simulation workflows for processing with AI tools
- You will define input and output variables for the development of surrogate models
- You will generate a “stochastic response cloud” as a data basis for training surrogate models
- You will develop surrogate models to directly derive FEM material parameters from measured 3-point bending test results
- You will apply the surrogate models to experimental data and validate them against conventionally generated material model parameterizations
Key Requirements/Skills/Experience
- You are enrolled in a scientific or engineering degree program such as plastics engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a comparable field
- You demonstrate a structured and independent working style combined with a high level of initiative
- You have strong analytical skills and a quick grasp of complex topics
- You have an affinity for plastics engineering as well as processes, methods, and IT tools
- Strong communication and teamwork skills complete your profile
The final contract duration will be agreed upon in consultation with the department.
