Senior HVAC Energy Optimisation Engineer (all genders, full-time, Düsseldorf)
Help decarbonise buildings with AI and advanced HVAC optimisation
Join DABBEL and help shape the future of building operations
DABBEL is a climate tech company on a mission to decarbonise buildings worldwide.
Our AI-powered software helps commercial and industrial buildings reduce energy consumption, lower CO₂ emissions, and improve operational performance by optimising HVAC systems through predictive control and intelligent automation.
We are not a traditional engineering company. We combine HVAC expertise, software, data analytics, and artificial intelligence to create measurable impact for our customers.
We are looking for a Senior HVAC Energy Optimisation Engineer who wants to apply their technical expertise to real-world energy challenges and help customers achieve significant reductions in energy use and carbon emissions.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong HVAC background who enjoys solving operational problems, working directly with customers, and turning technical insights into measurable results.
Your Mission
- As a Senior HVAC Energy Optimisation Engineer at DABBEL, you will work directly with customers to improve building performance and reduce energy consumption.
- You will analyse HVAC systems, identify optimisation opportunities, support implementations, validate performance improvements, and help customers achieve their sustainability and operational goals.
- You will act as a trusted technical expert, working closely with facility managers, building operators, system integrators, and internal teams to ensure successful optimisation projects.
What You Will Do
- Conduct HVAC asset analyses and identify opportunities for energy and CO₂ reduction
- Review HVAC systems, building documentation, BMS architecture, and control strategies to uncover optimisation potential
- Analyse operational data and performance trends to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities
- Support the implementation of HVAC optimisation measures together with customers, facility teams, and service providers
- Troubleshoot HVAC, BMS, controls, and communication issues in operational buildings
- Validate optimisation results and support measurement and verification activities
- Prepare professional technical reports and recommendations for customers
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of optimisation implementations and performance results
- Work directly with customers throughout the optimisation lifecycle, from initial assessment through implementation and ongoing support
- Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and data teams to continuously improve DABBEL's optimisation capabilities
- Support customer onboarding, technical workshops, and operational reviews
- Contribute practical HVAC expertise to the development of new products, services, and optimisation strategies
- Take ownership of projects and ensure high-quality technical delivery
What You Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical field
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC engineering, building operations, BMS, energy optimisation, commissioning, consulting, or related technical roles
- Strong understanding of HVAC system fundamentals and building operations
- Experience with commercial or industrial building HVAC systems
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and HVAC control strategies
- Experience analysing HVAC performance and identifying optimisation opportunities
- Understanding of central plant systems such as chilled water plants, heat pumps, district energy systems, thermal storage, or similar technologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical projects
- Experience preparing technical documentation and communicating technical concepts clearly
- Comfortable working directly with customers and stakeholders
- Professional working proficiency in English is required
- German language skills are considered a strong advantage, particularly for customer-facing activities within the DACH region, but are not mandatory
- Experience with energy audits, commissioning, retro-commissioning, IPMVP, ISO 50001, or energy performance verification is a plus
- Experience with data analytics tools such as Excel, Power BI, Python, or similar is beneficial
What Makes This Role Different
- This is not a traditional engineering role focused solely on design work.
- In this role, you will:
- Work on real buildings with measurable energy and carbon reduction targets
- See the direct impact of your work on customer outcomes
- Combine engineering expertise with operational problem solving
- Work closely with customers, software teams, and product development
- Contribute to one of the most important climate challenges of our time
- Gain exposure to advanced AI-driven building optimisation technologies
- Help shape the future of intelligent building operations
- Compensation and Incentives
- Salary: 60.000 € – 85.000 € per year depending on experience and qualifications
- In addition to base salary, this position participates in DABBEL's team bonus model. We believe in shared success, shared responsibility, and strong alignment around outcomes.
