What to Expect
Under the direction of Quality Engineers, (Senior) Quality Engineering Technicians in the Battery & Drive Unit department are responsible for the containment process, development and maintenance of quality documents, as well as the verification and auditing of incoming and in-process material according to Tesla quality and engineering requirements. Leading structured problem-solving, driving root cause analysis, and executing corrective actions are among your core responsibilities.
As a (Senior) Quality Engineering Technician, you work closely with Quality Engineers to monitor KPIs, maintain Control Plans, Quality Alerts and non-conforming product records, and translate production data insights into sustainable process improvements within Battery & Drive Unit manufacturing. In a senior capacity, you additionally take ownership of complex problem-solving initiatives, mentor Quality Technicians, and act as a key interface between Quality Engineering and cross-functional teams such as Operations, Maintenance, Process Engineering, and Supply Quality.
What You'll Do-
Be the first point of contact for Production Operations in Battery & Drive Unit, executing and leading containment activities to stop issues at the source and prevent quality escapes
- Verify and audit incoming and in-process material against Tesla quality and engineering requirements; notify stakeholders and escalate to the responsible QE when needed
- Lead structured problem-solving (A3, 8D, Six Sigma, Shainin) including root cause analysis (5-Why, Ishikawa) and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
- Develop and maintain quality documents (Control Plans, Quality Alerts, CNP records) and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Battery & DU quality team
- Monitor Quality KPIs, extract insights from production data, and translate findings into sustainable process improvements
- Mentor Quality Technicians and collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, Process Engineering, and Supply Quality
What You'll Bring-
Fluency in English and German (written and spoken)
- Completed vocational training or Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline (e.g., Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or Industrial Engineering)
- Solid hands-on experience in a manufacturing quality environment, ideally automotive or high-volume production
- Proven knowledge of quality tools: A3, 8D, FMEA, Control Plan, SPC, MSA, APQP/PPAP
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949
- Strong analytical mindset, self-starter attitude, and excellent communication skills
- Ability to work with large databases and run data analysis
- Experience in Battery, Drive Unit, or Powertrain manufacturing
- Project management experience (PMP, Agile, or similar)
- Proficiency in JIRA, Confluence, and/or coding skills (SQL, Python)
- Prior experience mentoring or leading a small team
