The Application Engineering Chapter Leader drives and continuously advances application expertise for the Critical Power business within ABB Electrification Smart Power (ELSP). This role is responsible for establishing and sharing best practices, standards, and domain know-how that enable customer and market requirements to be translated into optimized solutions and compelling value propositions. Through coaching, mentoring, and capability development, the Chapter Leader fosters a high-performing team of application engineering professionals.
The role leads the development of standards, tools, frameworks, and guidelines that enable efficient solution design, product selection, and adaptation to diverse customer needs. Working closely with Sales and other stakeholders, the Chapter Leader builds competencies across applications, solution architectures, market segments, channels, and value proposition development to support effective solution positioning and business growth.
In addition, the Chapter Leader owns and evolves key knowledge assets, including use cases, reference architectures, technical documentation, and reusable solution frameworks for the Critical Power portfolio. By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange across Sales, Product Management, R&D, and Agile Units, the role ensures customer needs, emerging use cases, and market insights are captured, shared, and leveraged to support portfolio evolution, innovation priorities, and future product development.
This is a global role with preferred hiring locations in Quartino (Switzerland), Heidelberg (Germany), and Bergamo (Italy). The working model is hybrid.
Roles and Responsibilities

Ensure the Application Engineering Chapter mission is delivered.

Act as a coach and subject matter expert, developing chapter members' competencies and skills.

Lead chapter alignment meetings, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities.

Build and nurture expertise in applications, solution architectures, market segments, channels, and customer value propositions for the Critical Power (ELSP) portfolio.

Develop and maintain standards, methods, tools, and best practices for application engineering.

Own and continuously evolve application knowledge, key use cases, reference architectures, technical documentation, and reusable solution frameworks.

Drive continuous learning and awareness of customer needs, market trends, competitive positioning, and segment dynamics within the chapter.

Ensure chapter members are equipped to identify and communicate customer needs, application trends, and market insights across the organization.

Promote effective collaboration and knowledge exchange with Sales, Product Management, R&D, and other Agile Units.

Lead recruitment, staffing, performance management, and career development of chapter members.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Energy Systems, or equivalent.

Proven experience in Critical Power, UPS, Energy Storage, Power Conversion, or related applications.

Strong understanding of applications, solution architectures, market segments, channel dynamics, and emerging market trends.

Proven ability to translate customer requirements and application challenges into differentiated solutions and compelling value propositions aligned with Critical Power business strategy.

Experience supporting Sales organizations through technical consulting, customer engagement, and channel enablement.

Proven leadership, coaching, and talent development capabilities.

Experience defining standards, methodologies, tools, and best practices within a technical organization.

Strong ability to operate and influence across complex stakeholder networks, including EPCs, consultants, end customers, channel partners, Sales, Product Management, and R&D.

Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with proven ability to engage customers, understand application challenges, and articulate value-driven solutions.
