What to Expect
The Cell Quality Steering Technician is a frontline quality professional responsible for monitoring, responding to, and resolving high-priority quality incidents across production cells during shift operations. You’ll act as a key link between production, engineering, and quality teams, ensuring rapid containment, accurate documentation, and timely escalation. This role supports a smooth and controlled production by maintaining visibility into quality performance, driving quick fixes, and contributing to continuous improvement — all while building strong cross-functional relationships and operational independence.
What You'll Do
- Monitor real-time quality data and alerts across assigned production cells; respond promptly to high-priority incidents during shift operations
-
Lead containment actions (e.g., hold, quarantine, suspect list creation) and ensure full documentation of root causes, corrective actions, and closure status
-
Prepare and present quality gate performance reports during early shift meetings — highlighting trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
-
Propose and implement simplifications to quality checks and processes to reduce unnecessary steps without compromising safety or quality
-
Build and maintain independent operational knowledge across all cell manufacturing areas (e.g., assembly, testing, integration)
-
Serve as a reliable point of contact during quality escalations — coordinating with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve issues quickly
-
Support the development and maintenance of shift-level quality dashboards and tracking tools.
-
Foster strong collaboration across teams by sharing insights, best practices, and feedback from the shop floor
What You'll Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or technical certification in manufacturing, quality, or engineering is a strong plus
-
2+ years of experience in a production, quality, or technical support role — preferably in automotive, industrial, or high-volume manufacturing
-
Strong understanding of quality processes (e.g., defect tracking, containment, documentation).
-
Ability to work independently during shift operations and make sound decisions under pressure
-
Good communication skills — clear, concise, and proactive in written and verbal updates
-
Proficiency with basic office tools (Excel, Word) and familiarity with digital systems (ERP, QMS, MES, or similar)
-
Willingness to work shifts (including early/rotating shifts) and support production ramp-up activities
-
Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools (even basic dashboard use)
-
Basic understanding of SQL or data querying (helpful for reporting)
-
Exposure to problem-solving methods (e.g., 5 Whys, PDCA, Kaizen)
-
Familiarity with automotive quality standards (e.g., IATF 16949, APQP) — not required but beneficial
-
Willingness to work in a 3-shift rotation and to develop expertise across multiple shops
-
