Risk professionals execute critical day-to-day risk management activities, lead projects, and contribute to the ongoing advancement of a robust risk management program. Effective coordination with executive management, business units, control departments and technology is critical for success.
WORKOUT & RESTRUCTURING TEAM
The Workout & Restructuring (W&R) team is a specialist group within Credit Risk (CR) that maintains primary responsibility (i) for managing the firm’s distressed and defaulted credit positions to maximize recoveries, and (ii) evaluating and structuring new transactions with distressed counterparties. Principal offices are in New York, Salt Lake City, London and Frankfurt to ensure global coverage of the portfolio. All major industries are represented, including consumer and retail, natural resources, financial services, TMT, and real estate. All major business lines are in scope, including Investment Banking, Asset Management Division, Global Markets and Private Wealth Management.
Workout & Restructuring team members are generalists, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on distressed restructurings/re-capitalizations across the capital structure in different geographies within EMEA/APAC and multiple industries.
RESPONSIBILITES
Represent Goldman in complex debt restructurings involving multiple stakeholders (creditors, sponsors, management teams, external advisors)
Conduct in depth credit analysis including review of industry fundamentals, cashflows, qualitative factors and likelihood of default and formulate/recommend workout strategies to maximize recoveries
Identify early warning signs when a credit starts showing sign of weakness and escalate them to senior leadership so that the firm can proactively take actions and mitigate downside risks, as appropriate
Monitor the performance of counterparties in the distressed Watch List portfolio, including adherence to repayment terms and covenants
Represent the team/firm in interactions with regulators and external auditors regarding names on watchlist, including provisioning levels and workout strategies
Act as a mentor for junior members in the team. Develop and manage relationships with other areas of the firm, including Investment Banking/Capital Markets, Sales & Trading, Operations, Collateral Management, Legal, Compliance, Technology
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience managing/leading complex debt restructurings across the capital structure in various jurisdictions in EMEA/APAC
Demonstrable track record over multiple years of independent decision making as well as the ability to work collaboratively in team settings.
Advanced corporate finance, restructuring, and financial accounting skills
Strong background in assessing legal documentation, including waivers, amendments, restructuring agreements, and related documents such as engagement letters for appointment of external advisors
Ability to lead and motivate diverse deal teams, providing guidance to and supervision of junior members of the team.
Ability to communicate with senior leadership within Goldman Sachs, both inside & outside of Credit risk.
Strong academics, ideally with a master’s degree in finance, engineering, economics or other quantitative areas/subjects
Excellent communications skills, including the ability to influence and build consensus
