Developing innovative technology solutions and bringing them to application - that is our goal at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS. With our expertise in the development of photonic microsystems, related technologies including nanoelectronics and wireless communication solutions, we create - in flexible and interdisciplinary teams - technologies for innovative products in a wide range of markets such as automotive, industrial and aerospace.
At our Cottbus site, we develop intelligent sensor systems for demanding applications in industry, mobility, aerospace and beyond. The focus of this PhD position is the development, characterization and experimental evaluation of advanced sensing hardware. Signal processing and Artificial Intelligence are applied as enabling technologies to optimize and analyze the developed sensor systems.
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to strengthen our interdisciplinary research team.
Be part of change
- Develop intelligent sensor systems: Design, implement and characterize innovative sensing systems based on different sensing principles such as ultrasonic, optical and chemical sensors. Investigate sensor behavior under varying environmental conditions and develop robust solutions for time- and energy-critical applications.
- Design embedded hardware: Develop experimental measurement setups, integrate sensors into embedded platforms and work with microcontrollers and FPGA-based systems. Validate and optimize your developments both in laboratory environments and field trials.
- Understand and optimize sensor behavior: Analyze sensor signals, identify influencing factors and improve the accuracy, robustness and energy efficiency of intelligent sensing systems.
- Apply AI as an engineering tool: Use signal processing, statistical methods and machine learning techniques to simplify sensor calibration, analyze measurement data and develop adaptive algorithms for intelligent sensing applications.
- Conduct excellent research: Publish your research in leading international journals and conferences while actively contributing to the scientific development of our research department.
