Function
Join Limagrain’s winter wheat breeding program in Germany , one of Europe’s most advanced and dynamic pipelines.
As an Assistant Wheat Breeder , you will contribute directly to the development of new high-performing varieties. Working closely with the Breeding Program Manager for Central Europe, you will combine field-based work, data analysis, and innovation in an international environment.
This role offers a clear development path : depending on your performance and potential, you can progressively grow toward a Wheat Breeder position with increasing responsibility .
Main Goal
Support the development and implementation of breeding strategies to build a competitive winter wheat portfolio
Contribute to all operational breeding activities (trial setup, field work, data collection)
Design, prepare, drill, monitor, and harvest field trials and nurseries
Perform phenotyping, data collection, and statistical analysis using modern breeding tools
Participate in selection decisions within breeding nurseries
Support the planning and execution of crossing programs
Assist with grain quality analysis and laboratory work
Collaborate with European and international breeding teams
Take part in field visits, trials, and occasional travel
Continuously develop your expertise in applied plant breeding and innovation
Job description
What we expect of you
Your profile
University degree in plant breeding or a related discipline (MSc required; PhD considered an advantage), with a solid grounding in breeding methodology, selection theory, and quantitative genetics
Basic knowledge of agronomy and plant production systems
Competence in statistical analysis, trial design, and data management
Solid knowledge in quantitative genetics, breeding methods, and trial designs
Structured, analytical, and solution-oriented working style
Team-oriented with strong communication skills
Proactive mindset with interest in innovation and continuous improvement
Willingness to work hands-on in the field and adapt to seasonal peaks
Fluent German and English (required)
