The Battery Cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. Tesla’s Production Engineering team is at the forefront of designing cutting-edge electrode production processes and transferring these into mass production. As a Process Lead for Dry Cathode Mixing, you will oversee the development, optimization, and execution of highly sophisticated mixing processes tailored for high-volume and high-quality battery cell production.
In this role, you will lead a team of engineers and technicians, driving process innovation and operational excellence while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. What You'll Do
- Oversee and direct the analysis and optimization of dry cathode mixing processes to ensure safety while maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness in a cost-effective manner, achieving world-class quality levels.

Lead and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives to enhance yield, capacity, and process capability, setting strategic goals for the team.

Drive innovation by applying advanced technical knowledge to design, develop, and refine processes, procedures, tooling, and fixtures specific to dry cathode mixing.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and New Product Introduction, to develop, validate, and improve manufacturing processes and ensure manufacturability of designs.

Spearhead new model/product introductions, ensuring seamless integration of dry cathode mixing processes into production.

Enable data-driven decision-making by providing predictive insights into tool and process performance and support the integration of factory data systems.

Implement structured problem-solving methodologies such as Design of Experiments (DoE), Five Why (5W), and Eight Disciplines (8D) to address process challenges.

Oversee the monitoring and reduction of process variation using techniques like Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA).

Ensure the creation and maintenance of Standard Work Instructions for all assigned processes.

Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to guarantee compliance with product specifications and standards.

Lead the development and maintenance of FMEAs and Control Plans for dry cathode mixing operations.

Optimize line layouts, material flow, waste reduction, and ergonomics using Lean Manufacturing best practices.

Mentor and develop a team of Engineers and Technicians, fostering a high-performing team environment.

Provide training and guidance to Associates as needed, ensuring consistent knowledge transfer across the team.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Materials, or related discipline). Alternatively, equivalent experience with evidence of exceptional ability.

Significant experience in a Battery Cell manufacturing environment, with specific expertise in dry cathode mixing or related electrode processes highly preferred.

Proven leadership experience in managing technical teams within a high-volume manufacturing setting.

Deep proficiency in automated equipment systems and tools, with a focus on mixing or coating applications.

Extensive background in a technology-based industry utilizing automated production techniques.

Advanced process engineering skills, including process development, troubleshooting, data analysis, constraint analysis, flow optimization, and root cause analysis.

Exceptional team-working and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels, particularly with direct labor to identify challenges and develop optimal solutions using structured methods.

Expertise in identifying critical process parameters and applying statistical methods for process measurement and control.

Ability to provide clear, focused technical guidance to internal teams and external engineering resources.

Strong hands-on mentality with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
