Job Description
We are seeking an experienced R&D Engineer, Hardware, to join our innovative team developing cutting-edge test equipment for high-speed digital applications used in data centers, servers, memories, networking, and related advanced technologies. This role is focused on high-speed digital board design and requires in-depth knowledge and practical experience across conceptual design, component selection, schematic design, layout review, signal and power integrity considerations, prototype bring-up, characterization, and product release.
In this role, you will lead or serve as a main contributor in board-level development and design projects that require coordination across hardware, software, system, manufacturing, supplier, and global R&D functions. You will determine and develop technical approaches for complex assignments, evaluate design trade-offs, and drive practical solutions that balance performance, quality, regulatory compliance, cost, schedule, manufacturability, and reliability.
You will contribute across all phases of the product development lifecycle by applying both hands-on and analytical engineering skills to highly complex PCBs, dense placement and routing reviews, pre- and post-layout SI/PI simulations, prototype turn-on, lab characterization, debugging, validation, and release readiness. The role requires the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to solve a broad range of technical problems of varying scope and complexity.
If you are passionate about high-speed digital hardware design, ready to take technical ownership of challenging board-level designs, and excited to work on leading-edge test and measurement solutions in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, we invite you to join our team.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead or act as a main contributor in high-speed digital board-level design projects for advanced test and measurement systems, coordinating across hardware, software, system, manufacturing, supplier, and global R&D functions.
-
Determine and develop technical approaches for complex board-level assignments, including architecture trade-offs, component selection, schematic design, PCB constraints, and implementation strategies.
-
Create and maintain schematics, select components, and collaborate with layout engineers on dense and complex PCB implementations.
-
Review PCB component placement and routing with focus on signal integrity, power integrity, manufacturability, reliability, and design-for-test considerations.
-
Perform, support, or interpret pre-layout and post-layout SI/PI simulations and translate findings into practical design improvements.
-
Drive prototype turn-on, lab characterization, debugging, and validation in frequency and time domains, including root-cause analysis of complex hardware issues.
-
Work with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet performance, quality, regulatory, cost, and schedule requirements.
-
Collaborate with hardware, software, system, and manufacturing engineers to ensure overall product performance, functionality, and release readiness.
-
Participate in and contribute to design reviews, document design decisions and measurement results, and support continuous improvement of development processes.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
-
Typically 4–5 years of relevant experience in hardware product design, high-speed digital board design, or an equivalent combination of demonstrated capability and technical responsibility.
-
In-depth knowledge and practical experience with high-speed digital design fundamentals, including timing concepts, signal integrity, power integrity, board-level constraints, and high-speed PCB implementation.
-
Experience with electrical design tools for schematic capture, PCB layout collaboration, simulation, analysis workflows, and design documentation.
-
Experience supporting or driving hardware bring-up, debugging, characterization, and validation on real hardware platforms.
-
Ability to work independently, define technical approaches, evaluate trade-offs, and solve complex engineering problems of varying scope.
-
Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a cross-functional product development team in a fast-paced environment.
-
Strong analytical and hands-on problem-solving skills.
-
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to document technical decisions and communicate across multiple functions.
-
English language skills, fluent in written and verbal communication.
- German language proficiency at B2 level.
Preferred
-
Experience with highly complex PCBs, including dense placement and routing, high-speed interfaces, FPGAs, SerDes-based interfaces, and advanced component technologies.
-
Experience with signal integrity and/or power integrity simulations for high-speed digital systems.
-
Experience with measurements in frequency and time domains.
-
Knowledge of high-speed digital signalling, equalization, PCIe, Ethernet, or similar communication technologies.
-
Interest in test and measurement applications and advanced electronic instrumentation.
