Position Description
· Responsible for leading highly technical chemical development projects in a customer-facing role, coordinate internal project team(s) ensuring successful project deliveries with respect to scientific quality, timelines, prioritization, risk management, and high customer satisfaction
· Responsible for the line management of a team of scientists
· Using their technical expertise to propose new, innovative solutions to various organic chemistry problems and realize them in the laboratory
· Clearly present and communicate results to customers, represent their own project on customer meetings, drive strategic discussions with customers
· Documents their experimental work at a high standard and in compliance with set expectations
· Mentors team members in process development, expert internal consultant for chemical development related questions
· Maintains a safe and tidy work environment in their own work area, complying with all Health and Safety rules and expectations
· Supports Business Development efforts as required, to attract customers and new projects
· Fosters a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance team culture through mentoring, talent development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Technical skills
· Synthetic laboratory skills: Expert at carrying out laboratory scale experiments (from reactions to isolations) in organic synthesis, high quality experimental work and data collection skills
· Practical experience with scaling up chemical processes beyond laboratory scale and transferring processes to manufacturing. Practical experience with executing chemistry on kilolab scale is an advantage.
· Expert at analyzing analytical data: NMR, GC-(MS), LC-(MS), with user level experience in all areas
· Expert level data analysis, documentation and reporting skills
· Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.) and scientific software
· Basic understanding of process safety techniques is a plus

Experience
· PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical process development
· Professional proficiency in English. Willingness to learn German.
· Good understanding of phase appropriate CMC development requirements in the pharmaceutical industry
· Experience with kinetics, high throughput experimentation, continuous processing, PAT or technology transfer is a plus
· Line management experience is beneficial
