What to Expect
Tesla is accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Revolutionary strategies and products have been developed within a few years and successfully launched at scale - made possible only through extraordinary speed, innovation, and efficiency. Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is establishing Tesla's next chapter in Europe. At the heart of this are our people - their passion, motivation, and engagement drive us toward our goals. We invite you to be part of this journey.
The role
The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and energy storage systems. Tesla's Production Engineering team is at the forefront of designing cutting-edge electrode production processes and scaling them into mass production. This team operates and develops highly complex, high-precision processes for high volume and high quality.
As a Process Engineer, you will drive these technologies toward their full potential, ensuring reliable and high-performing processes. You will rigorously analyze and resolve issues, continuously improving and optimizing production. You take pride in hands-on work, analytical thinking, organization, and attention to detail. You thrive in an environment where excellence is expected, noticed, and rewarded - and where individuals carry real responsibility.
What You'll Do
- Lead end-to-end optimization of calendering and lamination production processes - balancing safety, quality, cost, and performance to achieve world-class OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
-
Own the calendering and lamination processes - controlling critical parameters to ensure consistent quality at high volume.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that boost yield, capacity, and process capability across cal/lam operations.
-
Apply technical expertise to design, develop, and innovate roll-to-roll manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures.
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Design Engineering, NPI, Quality, Operations) to ensure robust, scalable, and manufacturable solutions.
-
Drive successful new product introductions, ensuring seamless transition from concept to production.
-
Enable data-driven decisions by leveraging predictive analytics and factory data systems.
-
Apply structured problem-solving methodologies: Design of Experiments (DoE), 5 Whys, 8D, and more.
-
Reduce process variation using SPC (Statistical Process Control) and MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis).
-
Develop and maintain clear, effective Standard Work Instructions and rigorously audit compliance.
-
Contribute to the development and maintenance of FMEAs and Control Plans.
-
Redesign production line layouts with a focus on material flow, waste reduction, ergonomics, and Lean principles.
-
Train and mentor Process Technicians and support frontline associates in mastering new processes.
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience in a relevant field.
-
Solid experience with automated production systems - direct experience with calendering and/or lamination processes in a roll-to-roll environment is strongly preferred.
-
5+ years in a technology-driven manufacturing environment using automation and advanced production techniques.
-
Proven process engineering skills: process development, root cause analysis, data-driven troubleshooting, constraint management, and flow optimization.
-
Familiarity with key cal/lam process parameters: roll gap, nip pressure, web tension, electrode density, coating adhesion, and drying profiles.
-
Strong interpersonal skills - able to collaborate effectively across all levels, especially with shop floor teams.
-
Ability to identify critical process parameters and apply statistical methods to control and improve performance.
-
Ability to deliver clear, actionable technical guidance to engineers and operational teams.
-
Hands-on mindset - you don't just analyze, you get involved.
-
Fluent in English; German is a plus.
