TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer.
The Department of Humanities and Theology includes the Institutes of Protestant Theology and Catholic Theology as well as a joint Institute of Philosophy and Political Science. The Institute of Protestant Theology offers teacher training programs for protestant religious education in all types of schools. The Department has an interdisciplinary focus on teaching and research in the field of “Religion and Politics” with special emphasis on philosophical references.
Profile of the professorship
You represent the area Church History and History of Theology, ideally with an (additional) focus in Gender Studies in research and further develop these with (inter)national visibility. In doing so, you participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU Dortmund University. You are willing to acquire third-party funds, are committed to promoting early career researchers and participate appropriately in the teaching activities of the department.
In the case of the W1 professorship with W2 tenure track, the successful candidate will be appointed as a temporary civil servant initially for three years. In the course of the third year, this status will be reviewed and may be extended for a further three years depending on performance. At the end of this six-year assistant professorship at the latest, the tenure track will lead to continued employment as a tenured W2 professor, provided that the necessary aptitude, competence and academic performance have been demonstrated and that the legal requirements pertaining to Section 38 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG NRW) are met. The teaching load of the assistant professorship is four hours per week in each of the first three years. In the case of a positive review, it will increase to five hours per week in each of the last three years.
Your qualifications
You have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and you have demonstrated first experiences in the dissemination of your research in the field of the professorship through publications in internationally recognized venues with peer-review. International research contacts and collaborations are desirable. Additionally, for the W2 professorship, a post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification, continuous publications in internationally recognized venues with peer-review, and international visibility of the scientific achievements are expected. For the W2 professorship, applicants must also demonstrate that they have independently acquired research projects or third-party funding in competitive processes. All applicants will have the potential for teaching excellence and possess the ability and willingness to teach in both English and – in the medium term – German. Social and leadership skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration will complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Section 36 and 37 HG NRW apply.
