As a Data Scientist based in Hanau, you will play a key role in the development and deployment of next-generation Generative AI and Agentic AI solutions within Umicore. You will work at the intersection of AI technology and business expertise, closely collaborating with domain experts to transform highly specialized knowledge into practical AI applications.
You will shape the future of Synthetix, Umicore's internally developed Generative AI platform, by designing, implementing and scaling advanced AI asistants and agentic workflows that support research, engineering and operational excellence across the complany. Your responsibilities will include:
Deliver Agentic AI Solutions
- Design, develop and deploy advanced Generative AI and Agentic AI solutions for industrial business challenges
- Architect multi-agent systems, AI assistants and intelligent workflows that combine reasoning, retrieval, tools ad business logic
- Build trustworthy chatbot solutions that integrate multiple data and knowledge sources into a coherent user experience
- Develop custom AI logic, orchestriation workflows and integrations beyond standard document-based chatbots
Technology Innovation & AI Leadership
- Monitor and evaluate the latest developments in Large Language Models, Agentic AI, AI framework and emerging technologies
- Assess new technological opportunities from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft and open-source communities
- Advise the Date Science team and IT platform teams on technology choices, architecture and implementing strategies
- Contribute to the evolution of Umicore's Generative AI roadmap and technical capabilities
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Artifical Intelligence, Software Engineering, Data Science or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience developing industrial, agentic systems
- Demonstrated experience delivering at least one custom Generativ AI application that goes significantly beyond basic document processing or retrieval
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders and domain experts
- Industrial or academic background in chemistry, material science, process technology or automotive applications is considered as strong asset
- Strong practical expertise in Generative AI and Large Language Model technologies
- Experience in desigining AI agents, multi-agent architectures and tool-enabled AI systems
- Knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation, knowledge grounding and trustworthy AI design principles
- Experience integrating multiple information and data sources into a unified AI solution
- Strong software engineering and Python programming skills
- Ability to evaluate emerging AI technologies and translate them into practical business value
