What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Quality Operations Manager to lead quality execution across Vehicle, Battery Pack, and Drive Unit production in our high-volume manufacturing environment at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg. This role owns shopfloor quality operations—from Forming, Body, Paint, and General Assembly through Battery and Drive Unit—including data-driven steering, containment management, Quality Engineering interfaces, and partnership with all factory operations.
You will lead a multi-shop organization comprising Associate Managers, Supervisors, Team Leads, Quality Technicians/Inspectors, and a cross-shop Quality Steering team. You will define objectives aligned with business plans and capacity targets, drive teams toward established quality and yield KPIs, and build the standards, metrics, and leadership bench required to maintain reliable product quality at scale.
What You'll Do
Quality Leadership & Operations

Own all Quality Operations across Vehicle, Battery, and Drive Unit, including data steering, containment execution, Quality Engineering collaboration, and factory operations interfaces

Lead and develop Quality Operations teams (Associate Managers, Supervisors, Team Leads, technicians, and inspectors) to deliver high-quality products and processes

Drive teams to achieve targets for quality, yield, efficiency, and delivery in a high-volume, high-change environment

Define Quality Operations objectives to meet business plans, capacity and headcount targets, and key performance indicators
Quality Systems & Standards

Develop and implement quality strategies to improve efficiency, reduce defects, and enhance customer satisfaction

Establish clear organizational structure within each Quality Operations team; standardize and document all processes

Ensure consistency in standards and documentation; monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies

Enforce proper material management and nonconforming material procedures (identification, segregation, disposition, traceability)
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

Ensure adherence to reaction and containment processes in response to quality issues, including effective corrective actions, containment measures, and cleanpoint discipline

Collaborate with Quality Management, Quality Engineering, Production, Process Engineering, and cross-functional partners to correct, contain, and resolve quality concerns

Support new product and material introductions, APQP activities, audit preparations, and continuous improvement initiatives

Lead continuous improvement in safety, environmental performance, quality, cost, efficiency, and productivity
Metrics & Reporting

Develop and continuously improve key shop metrics; establish and maintain quality metrics and objectives, including safety, quality, and efficiency targets

Conduct analysis and prepare reports on projects, process improvements, and system performance for leadership

Ensure all quality-related processes and procedures are followed, including inspection and testing, and that all quality records are accurate and current
People & Culture

Develop and manage team members to achieve operational excellence through hiring, training, coaching, and performance management

Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the team and across the organization

Ensure optimal use of resources and adherence to best safety practices, including compliance with legal requirements
Experience & Leadership

5+ years of experience in leadership, engineering, quality, or related fields, preferably in high-volume manufacturing

Proven track record leading multi-shift teams and developing Supervisors/Team Leads and leadership bench strength
-
Demonstrated ability to improve yield, FTT/FPY, scrap, and audit performance through people, process, and data-driven action
Technical & Quality Expertise

Strong engineering fundamentals and intuition, with hands-on experience in quality management systems and tools

Deep command of quality operating systems: containment, cleanpoint, nonconformance control, control plans, structured problem solving (SPC/PFMEA familiarity a plus)

Strong analytical skills; ability to translate shopfloor and dashboard data into clear decisions and leadership reporting

Experience with headcount/capacity planning and resource management in manufacturing quality operations

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop team members

High flexibility regarding working hours, including presence across early/late/night shifts as factory needs require
