What to Expect
Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg marks a defining moment in Europe for Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Here we will launch revolutionary products on a massive scale, using extraordinary speed, innovation and efficiency. Our employees will ensure that we achieve our goals, and we welcome you to help us write the next chapter of our success story.
We at Gigafactory Berlin Design and Construction are looking for a Mechanical/Process Commissioning Engineer to join an energetic and vibrant environment. In this role, you will be the technical lead on the ground, responsible for carrying out commissioning activities across multiple projects. You will lead technicians in the field, manage suppliers performing commissioning work, and take ownership of commissioning documentation for your assigned systems. Working within the processes and standards established by the Commissioning Lead, you will ensure that mechanical, process, and utility systems are commissioned safely, efficiently, and to the required quality - from construction through to handover.
What You'll Do
- Execute pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities for mechanical and process systems in line with approved procedures and checklists.
-
Perform system walkdowns, functional testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical dry systems (HVAC, dust collection, exhaust), process systems (water treatment, natural gas, liquid nitrogen, etc.), and utility systems (compressed air, domestic water, sewage, etc.).
- Lead and direct technicians during commissioning activities, ensuring safe work practices, proper execution of procedures, and adherence to schedules.
-
Manage third-party suppliers and subcontractors carrying out commissioning work - oversee their execution quality, verify compliance with Tesla standards, and ensure they submit complete and accurate documentation before system acceptance.
- Prepare and maintain commissioning documentation for assigned systems, including checklists, test procedures, punch lists, and handover packages, using the templates and standards established by the Commissioning Lead.
- Coordinate daily with Engineering, Construction, Technical Services, Manufacturing, and contractors to align commissioning activities with project schedules.
- Support the development of commissioning scopes and packages and provide input to the Procurement team when required
-
Identify and resolve technical issues in the field, escalating complex problems to the Commissioning Lead when necessary.
-
Ensure compliance with German regulations, technical standards, and permit requirements across all commissioning activities
-
Contribute to value engineering and schedule optimization efforts by providing practical input during execution
-
Maintain high quality standards during commissioning and ensure timely documentation for system handover, from early access to final acceptance
-
Work across multiple projects and areas simultaneously while responding promptly to site issues.
What You'll Bring-
Bachelor's and/or master's degree in mechanical engineering, process engineering, or a related technical field, and/or evidence of equivalent practical experience.
-
5–8 years of relevant commissioning experience on complex industrial or manufacturing projects.
-
Strong hands-on experience with commissioning of mechanical, process, and utility systems in industrial or manufacturing environments.
-
Experience leading technicians or field crews during commissioning or construction activities.
-
Experience managing or overseeing third-party suppliers and subcontractors in a commissioning or construction environment.
-
Good understanding of German technical standards, regulations, and documentation requirements.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; German language skills are a strong advantage.
-
High proficiency in Microsoft Office and Autodesk tools.
-
Willingness to spend a high percentage of time in the field and get hands dirty as needed to complete objectives.
-
Ability to work within a high-performance, cross-functional organization with tight timelines and aggressive goals.
