Of fundamental importance for the program is the operation of the SUNDAE1 measurement system. SUNDAE1 is a vertical liquid helium bath used to train SCU coils and to measure their magnetic field.
The main task for this position is to coordinate the operation SUNDAE1 in collaboration with other colleagues from the UNSYS group and DESY technical groups. This includes:
- Coordinate and perform measurements of superconducting coils at the SUNDAE1 facility in collaboration with colleagues from the UNSYS group and other DESY technical groups
- Maintain and upgrade the SUNDAE1 facility, including defining technical specifications for new components and coordinating technical discussions with vendors
- Maintain existing electrical schematics and develop new eplans required for measurement activities
- Prepare, review, and update risk assessments to ensure safe operation of the facility and measurement systems
Requirements
- Degree (MSc or PhD) in Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Applied Superconductivity, or a closely related field
- Prior experience with one of the following topics: superconducting magnets, accelerator physics, undulator technology, cryogenic systems or magnetic field measurements

The following points are considered an asset:
- Experience with numerical modelling and simulation tools (e.g., OPERA, COMSOL, ANSYS, CST, or similar multiphysics/FEM softwares), in particular for electromagnetic fields
- Use of mechanical drawing software (e.g. NX, SolidWorks, CATIA)
- Prior experience with materials suitable for cryogenic environment
- Experience in designing of tools or control jigs (including 3D printing machine)
- Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar scientific computing environments
