Sandbox Interactive is the ambitious game development studio behind the award-winning game Albion Online. As a Level Designer you will create engaging, immersive, and well-balanced game environments that enhance player experience and support the core gameplay of our long-standing MMORPG. You will focus on designing and building compelling levels, ensuring seamless integration with game systems and art direction and maintaining a consistent balance between aesthetics, gameplay flow, and technical constraints.
Your responsibilities will include:
Take ownership of assigned levels or content areas, from first layout to final polish
Build levels, dungeons, and PvE/PvP areas that offer compelling gameplay and exploration
Translate gameplay ideas and design briefs into playable, optimized and aesthetically appealing levels using Unity and internal tools
Populate levels with encounters, landmarks, and visual storytelling elements
Work closely with Game Designers, Artists, and Engineers to ensure levels enhance gameplay clarity and performance
Identify and proactively address gameplay or readability issues within owned content
Conduct playtests, gather feedback, and refine levels for balance and flow
Maintain consistency in difficulty, readability, and player experience
3+ years of experience in level design for games, ideally with a focus on online multiplayer titles
Strong sense for space and layouts and an eye for aesthetically attractive designs and environment
Solid understanding of engaging combat, pacing, and player guidance
Experience working with Unity or other 3D game engines
Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines
Passion for MMOs, worldbuilding, and player-driven gameplay
Excellent communication skills (presentation, verbal and written) in English
Experience with Albion Online or similar sandbox/MMO games
Practical experience with an isometric camera perspective
Experience with combat design, and xml and system design tools
Artistic background or interest is an advantage
Understanding of performance optimization and mobile-friendly design
