High Voltage Engineering Specialist (Grid Connection & HV Systems)
Role Summary
The High Voltage Engineering Specialist is responsible for the design, integration, and compliance of high‑voltage (HV) systems and grid connection interfaces for utility‑scale energy projects (e.g. BESS, renewables).
The role ensures that all HV equipment, grid interfaces, and system studies comply with grid codes, utility requirements, and applicable standards , while supporting project execution from concept through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
1. Grid Connection & Compliance
- Lead development of grid connection concepts and strategies
- Ensure compliance with TSO/DSO requirements and grid codes (e.g. VDE‑AR‑N 4110/4120/4130)
- Define and review compliance evidence, simulation scope, and certification requirements
- Develop and define operational modes
- Interface with grid operators and support connection studies and approvals
2. High Voltage System Design
- Design and review HV systems including:
- HV substations and switchyards
- Transformers (e.g. 380/33 kV) and auxiliary systems
- HV cable systems and overhead line interfaces
- Develop and validate:
- Single line diagrams (SLD)
- Equipment specifications (switchgear, transformers, protection)
- Electrical layouts and earthing concepts
- Ensure integration between HV, MV, and plant systems (BESS / generation)
3. Protection, Control & System Integration
- Define and assess:
- Protection philosophy and relay settings
- SCADA / PPC / EMS interfaces
- Coordinate interfaces between:
- HV systems
- Power Conversion System (PCS)
- Plant control and automation systems
- Ensure compliance with power quality, dynamic performance and grid-support requirements
5. Construction & Commissioning Support
- Support:
- Installation supervision for HV equipment
- Energization procedures and commissioning activities
- Review:
- Test procedures (FAT/SAT)
Grid compliance and performance tests

Required Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or equivalent
Professional Experience
Extensive experience in:
High voltage systems (typically
- 110 kV)
- Grid connection of power plants / BESS / renewables
- Experience in grid compliance processes
Core Technical Skills
Grid & System Expertise
- Grid code compliance (VDE, ENTSO‑E context)
- Power system studies (e.g. load flow, fault level, dynamic behavior)
- Grid connection procedures and permitting
HV Engineering
- Substations (AIS/GIS), transformers, HV cables
- Protection systems and relay coordination
- Earthing and insulation coordination
Integration Skills
- Interface to BESS / inverter‑based resources
- Understanding of:
- PCS / inverters
Grid-support functions (reactive power, frequency response, blackstart)
