Our Team of >170 is distributed in 30 countries worldwide. We work remotely and our work culture is shaped by mutual trust, enthusiasm and a strong belief in the principles of open source.
As we keep growing internationally, we're looking for a Legal & Compliance Manager to own our legal and compliance topics end-to-end and become the trusted legal voice across the company.
- Own all legal documents at Nextcloud — keeping them current, consistent and properly organised.
- Draft, review and negotiate customer contracts, order forms, NDAs, and partner/reseller agreements.
- Own and evolve our Terms & Conditions, DPAs and other standard contractual documents.
- Build and run our compliance framework: policies, training and risk tracking.
- Act as legal advisor for public tenders — reviewing tender documents, eligibility and compliance requirements, and supporting the bidding process.
- Be the go-to person for data protection (GDPR) questions across the business, working hand-in-hand with our external Data Protection Officer.
- Support Sales during deal negotiations and give pragmatic, business-friendly legal guidance.
- Keep an eye on regulatory developments relevant to an international open-source software business and translate them into action.
- Support with HR-related legal matters - contracts, terminations as needed - in close cooperation with our Head of HR.
- A completed legal degree (a German legal qualification is a plus).
- Several years of hands-on experience in commercial contract law, T&C drafting and negotiation — ideally in B2B software or tech.
- Solid, practical knowledge of data protection law (GDPR) and experience working with a DPO or supervisory authorities.
- Experience advising on public tenders / public procurement law (e.g. VgV, GWB, UVgO), ideally in a software or IT context.
- A pragmatic, confident communicator who can explain legal things to non-lawyers and help the business move forward.
- Fluent German and English, spoken and written.
- Understanding of the software / SaaS / open-source business model and licensing (e.g. AGPL, dual licensing), ideally experience in a scale-up or fast-growing software company.
- A distributed, open and enthusiastic team with a passion for working for and within the open source community
- A fun and diverse team
- A product which pushes the boundaries of technology with a global user and contributor community
- A competitive salary
- Remote work and flexibility for a healthy work-life balance
- Time for personal growth and education
