Senior Counsel - Europe (m/w/d)
Job Description Summary
- The Senior Counsel-Europe (m/w/d) provides legal advice to all departments based in Europe and adds value to the business by leading preparation and negotiations of multiple contract types
- European business travel will be approximately 30-40% of working time, in order to engage with leadership, manufacturing sites, customers, suppliers and project teams
- In addition, the position-holder will cooperate with external counsel, Associations and governmental bodies
The position can be filled either in Lohmar or in Langen (Hessen).
Job Description:

Handle legal matters affecting the company in the European region by giving advice to the business, typically on matters concerning civil, commercial, competition and/or labor law

Draft, review and negotiate various contract types with suppliers, customers and other business partners

Act as direct contact person for advice to Finance, Engineering, Commercial, and Procurement departments

Enforce contractual and non-contractual claims, defend against third-party claims; conclude (out-of-court) settlement agreements following internal approvals

Collaborate with cross-functional project teams including representatives from HR, Commercial, Operations, Engineering and Procurement in a fast-paced environment

Represent the company in legal disputes; protection of the company’s interests; exclusion/mitigation of risk exposure

Support legal aspects of project in Europe as assigned by manager; contribute to workstreams and cooperate with external counsel

Investigate and resolve complex or critical issues in a timely and effective manner; support HR on individual or collective labor law topics and other potentially sensitive cases

Creation and implementation of training materials on multiple legal topics to enhance cross-functional cooperation and awareness of stakeholders

Support roll-out of company-wide programs and initiatives, provide guidance to the business
Required Skills and Education

Masters Degree in law or equivalent (preferably in Civil Law)

At least 5 years’ professional experience in a corporate legal department or international law firm, ideally in the automotive, manufacturing or industrial sector

Sound knowledge of the legal framework in supply chain, procurement, general civil and contract law

Robust experience in contract drafting and negotiating

Experience in managing cross-functional stakeholders

Strong hands-on mentality, high willingness to perform, high sense of responsibility, comfortable in high-paced environments

Communication skills, sociability and confidence in making recommendations

Ability to proactively identify issues and provide solutions with the necessary sensitivity and confidentiality

Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Mobility for business travel (30 – 40% of working time)

Fluent German and English language skills, knowledge of an additional European language is an advantage
