As a Senior Network Engineer focused on the mesh and routing layer, you will design and own the control- and forwarding-plane logic that lets autonomous nodes, whether airborne, ground-based or orbital, discover, maintain and forward traffic across topologies that range from constantly shifting to precisely engineered.
The role spans two distinct routing paradigms: highly dynamic ad-hoc and mobile mesh networks, governed by protocols such as OLSR, Babel and B.A.T.M.A.N., and deterministic, engineered environments built on classical routing protocols such as OSPF, IS-IS and BGP, with label switching (MPLS) and segment routing, whether label-based (SR-MPLS) or IPv6-native (SRv6), layered on top for traffic engineering and fast failover.
You will be equally comfortable designing for topology churn and intermittent connectivity as you are for traffic-engineered, predictable paths. Your work underpins the mesh fabric that connects our decentralized autonomous systems platforms across air, ground and space.

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Communications Engineering or a related field.

Minimum 5 years of professional experience in network engineering.

Deep knowledge of IP routing protocols (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP) and forwarding and traffic-engineering mechanisms (MPLS, segment routing, ECMP, policy-based forwarding).

Hands-on experience with ad-hoc and mobile mesh routing protocols (OLSR, Babel, B.A.T.M.A.N. or comparable MANET/FANET protocols).

Strong understanding of eBPF/XDP for programmable, high-performance packet forwarding in the Linux kernel.

Practical knowledge on network simulation and emulation (e.g., using ns-3, Mininet, CORE).

Advanced proficiency in C, C++ or Rust for Linux-embedded, network-stack or routing-daemon development.

Excellent communication skills in English; German language skills are a plus.

Experience with routing daemons or stacks, such as FRRouting, BIRD or the Quagga/Zebra lineage.

Knowledge on software-defined networking (SDN) controllers and centralized or decentralized policy distribution.

Experience with IETF, IEEE, NATO STANAG communication protocols; defense or dual-use application.
