The Research Department “Transformation of Political (Dis-)order” at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) offers two (2) short-term visiting scholar positions of 3 – 6 weeks between September and November 2026. The positions offer the opportunity to work on the applicants' own original research that aligns with one of the department’s main areas of research. Visiting researchers will be hosted at IDOS in Bonn, Germany.
During their time in Bonn, Visiting Researchers can network with the scientific staff at IDOS as well as other researchers in Germany. Guest researchers are also expected to give a seminar on their research to the IDOS scientific staff during their stay. Applicants’ work should directly connect to at least one of the department’s research clusters as well as staff member(s) research foci. All career stages are welcome, however applicants should be at least at the writing stage of their PhD
Proposed research activities must relate to topics currently covered by the department
Letter of motivation explaining why IDOS and the Department “Transformation of Political (Dis-)order” would be a good fit for your work. Please clearly indicate which concrete research cluster or project(s) as well as staff member(s) your research connects well with and include a brief description of expected outputs (2 pages max)
A proposed schedule of what you will do while in Bonn, and two optional time periods (1st and 2nd choice) for the research stay (1 page)

A letter from your employer or PhD department confirming your continued employment through the course of the research stay
Travel and accommodation costs of selected guest researchers will be covered by IDOS. In addition, a daily allowance defined by German Travel Law will be paid. Selected guest researchers who require a visa to enter Germany will be provided with a letter of support.
