Business Unit Overview
This position is part of Novanta’s Novanta Medical GmbH business unit. Specialized in the field of Minimally Invasive Medicine, Novanta Medical GmbH develops devices and accessories so that doctors can operate with small cuts. We produce Insufflators, Medical Pumps, and tubing that makes diagnosis and treatment easier for everyone. Our insufflators and pump systems dilate cavities in the body and turn previously complicated surgeries into minor procedures. Together with customers, doctors, and technical experts, our teams continuously search for new ways to innovate.
Summary
This job is responsible for the project management of product development projects as part of larger development programs. The role covers typical tasks and responsibilities of project management, including planning, monitoring, and reporting. The successful candidate will lead the development and launch of both active medical devices and single-use/disposable products, with a primary focus on disposable product technologies.
Primary Responsibilities
Managing large-scale product development projects (NPI)
Creation and monitoring of project plans, including milestone plans, COGS, project costs, and NREs
Reporting project status updates and project phase transitions to executive management
Identification and mitigation of project risks
Guiding the project team through individual development phases
Alignment of shared resources within R&D
Coordination with Purchasing, Service, Production, Quality Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Product Management, customers, and external service providers
Initiating procurement of materials for sample and prototype builds
Initiating, coordinating, and maintaining technical product documentation up to product launch
Ensuring timely delivery of mandatory documents for each project phase
Ensuring fulfillment of customer expectations and customer satisfaction
Escalating critical project parameters to the Program Manager and leadership
Ensuring effective internal and external communication flow
Aligning customer communication strategies internally
Leading cross-functional teams throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from concept through commercialization
General Tasks
Implementation of the departmental and product group strategy
Coordination with other project managers on processes, interfaces and cross-sectional tasks
Active participation in the innovation process & continuous improvement
Strict compliance with the quality, occupational safety and environmental regulations
Implementation of the instructions of the quality / environmental management representative and the occupational safety specialist
Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies
Min. 3 years of project management experience in a regulated industry (e.g. medical devices, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, automotive)
Proven track record of leading New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from concept through market launch
Experience managing project scope, schedule, risks, budget, and product cost targets (COGS)
Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
Strong leadership and ownership mindset
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Fluent English language
Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience with single-use/disposable medical products (biocompatibility, sterilization, packaging, shelf-life, process validation, manufacturing transfer)
Exposure to active medical devices, including software, electronics, or mechanical development
Experience with Agile or hybrid Agile/traditional development environments
PMP, IPMA, Prince2, or equivalent certification
Fluent German language is a plus
