Location: Ingolstadt, Germany
Skills: Programming experience in C++ and/or Python, interest in Robotics and AI.
FMC3 is a Robotics startup operating in Ingolstadt, Germany and Shanghai, China. Our main product is a Robot Brain utilizing the most recent AI technologies as well as classical robotics algorithms for perception, navigation, manipulation, task planning and execution. We initially target robots built by our partners, but are also developing our own humanoid platform – which you will get to see and work with in person.
We are growing fast and want motivated students to grow with us. As a working student or intern at FMC3, you won’t be stuck making coffee – you’ll contribute to real robotics software alongside our engineering team and experience the development of actual humanoid robots firsthand. We are looking for students with relevant coursework or project experience in software development, robotics, or AI, who are curious, hands-on, and excited to learn in a fast-moving environment. Safety-oriented thinking matters to us (“what could go wrong” and “how is this useful” instead of “what is the fastest way to a flashy demo”).
Responsibilities
● Support commissioning and operation of our ROS2-based modularized robot architecture
● Implement and test algorithms in areas such as sensor calibration, kinematics, localization, mapping, or robot skill training – guided by senior engineers
● Contribute to data collection, simulation, and resimulation software pipelines
● Help develop and test robot applications for industrial or household scenarios – working directly with our humanoid robot hardware
● Support development of Augmented Reality applications for robot teaching, demonstration, and data collection
Minimum Qualifications
● Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field
● Solid programming skills in Python and/or C++
● Relevant coursework or project experience in robotics, AI, control systems, or computer vision
● Basic familiarity with Linux and command-line workflows
● Motivated by the opportunity to work hands-on with real humanoid robots and witness development progress in person
● Safety-oriented mindset – thinking about what could go wrong, not just the fastest path to a result
● German and English language skills on B2 or above
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience with unit testing, integration testing, CI/CD, etc.
● Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
● Enjoy working within a dynamic and continuously evolving environment
● Able to work in cross-functional teams across organizational/geographical boundaries
● Prior project or internship experience with robots, autonomous systems, or embedded platforms
● Experience with ROS1 or ROS2
● Experience with RGBD, lidar, or similar sensors
● Experience with Augmented / Virtual Reality applications in Unity or similar
● Show out-of-box thinking and invent creative solutions for challenging problems
● Familiarity working on Agile teams
Benefits & Perks
● Location: In the center of Ingolstadt, Germany
● Compensation: Fair working student / internship compensation
● Experience: Direct, hands-on exposure to real humanoid robot development – not just simulations or slides
● Flexibility: Flexible scheduling to fit your university timetable, and real ownership of the work you take on
