About the Role
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing complex accounting activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supporting the financial close and reporting processes. This role performs advanced accounting analysis, manages key balance sheet accounts, and provides guidance to junior accounting staff while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal financial controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently and accurately prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with HGB and US GAAP.
- Manage and oversee payroll accounting activities.
- Oversee accounting activities for foreign subsidiaries and serve as the primary contact for financial reporting and accounting matters.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and optimization of accounting processes.
- Act as a key contact for external auditors, tax advisors, and tax authorities.
- Prepare and review complex journal entries to ensure accurate recording of financial transactions in the general ledger.
- Lead balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Support and coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Analyze financial data and account balances to identify trends, risks, and unusual transactions.
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies, financial controls, and applicable accounting standards.
- Prepare financial schedules and reports to support management reporting and financial analysis.
- Support internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
- Collaborate with finance teams and business stakeholders to ensure accurate financial data and reporting.
- Review work performed by junior accounting team members and provide guidance on accounting procedures.
- Participate in the implementation of new accounting policies, financial systems, and process improvements.
- Assist with statutory, regulatory, and tax reporting requirements where applicable.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance reporting efficiency.
- Support other team members as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field; alternatively, vocational training combined with a Certified Accountant qualification and relevant professional experience.
- Strong knowledge of HGB (German GAAP).
- Knowledge of US GAAP is advantageous.
- Experience working with ERP systems, preferably SAP R/3 or SAP S/4HANA.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong systems aptitude.
- 7–9 years of accounting, financial reporting, or general ledger experience.
- Strong experience managing financial close processes and account reconciliations.
- Knowledge of accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
- Experience working with financial reporting tools and ERP systems.
- Professional accounting certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA, Bilanzbuchhalter, or equivalent) is preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: 60.000,04€ - 80.000,17€ per year
