The University of Cologne is home to the Cologne Center for Contem-
porary Epistemology and the Kantian Tradition (CONCEPT). The center
was founded in 2016 and is led by Professor Sven Bernecker. CONCEPT is
built on the premise that contemporary epistemology and epistemology
in the classical German tradition both benefit from the crossfertilization
of ideas and methods. The postdoc position is embedded within a team
of philosophers who work closely together.
YOUR TASKS
» The successful candidate will pursue a research project in contem-
porary epistemology and works closely with the othermembers of
CONCEPT
» Teaching responsibilities amounting to 4 hours per week.
» Support in the planning and implementation of conferences, lecture
series, and grant applications
» Preparation and participation in internal workshops/conferences/
reading groups
» Correspondence to initiate and/or pursue co-operations with scien-
tific institutions nationally and abroad
YOUR PROFILE
» The applicant must have a doctorate in philosophy and must have-
contemporary epistemology as an area of specialization. ABD (“all
but dissertation”) candidates will be considered if the degree has
been conferred 1 September 2026
» Research communication skills and new media literacy are desirable
» Experience in grant writing is also desirable
