Summary
HII-Mission Technologies is seeeking a Network Engineer Lead who designs, plans leads network engineering tasks and systems, providing specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture supporting USAFE-AFAFRICA/A6’s BlackNet Operations Center (BNOC)! This position provides specific, detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
The Network Engineer Lead conducts testing of network systems and maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switches, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, and other network infrastructure components. This role will lead a team of network engineers in the operations and maintenance (O&M), network optimization, future integration for BlackNet operating locations. The Network Engineer Lead evaluates and reports on new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network and supports the organization's mission-critical operations. What you will do
Network Design & Architecture:
Define engineering and fix action priorities for network engineering team and lead optimization initiatives
Design and plan network systems to meet current and future organizational requirements
Provide specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture including topology diagrams, IP addressing schemes, and network segmentation plans
Develop comprehensive network design documentation including technical specifications, implementation plans, and configuration standards
Create detailed network architecture blueprints that incorporate security, redundancy, and scalability requirements
Design solutions that optimize network performance, reliability, and security
Plan for present and future capacity requirements through capacity modeling and forecasting
Manage and expand network interconnections, network co-location sites, and points of presence
Manage network infrastructure and deployments to Top Secret datacenters
Improve network performance and reliability based upon system performance metrics
Assist in capacity augmentation and network optimization deployments
Lead network integration and troubleshooting efforts across complex environments
Collaborate with hardware, software, and network engineers to improve network design
Work with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of network solutions
Build automation for network devices, operational tools, and deployment processes
Recommend implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs
Research and specify network hardware and software that aligns with organizational standards and security requirements
Conduct performance testing and optimization to meet service level agreements
Technical Expertise & Maintenance:
Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing
Demonstrate proficiency with routers, switches, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, and related networking equipment
Stay current with networking technologies, protocols, and industry best practices
Maintain deep knowledge of OSI model and Layers 1-4 functionality
Apply expertise in virtualization and security practices including IPSec, Radius/TACACS+, and 802.1x
Understand and implement network security measures including IDS, ACLs, and IPSEC tunnels
Perform and/or develop schedule for On-Call support for IT networking outages and maintenance reporting
Compliance & Security:
Ensure compliance with DISA STIG Checklist and other security standards
Implement network security best practices and maintain security posture
Configure and maintain network access controls and authentication mechanisms
Support security audits and vulnerability assessments
Maintain documentation to support certification and accreditation activities
Apply security patches and updates in accordance with organizational policies

What we are looking for
9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience
Full understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the networking field
General knowledge of other related disciplines including cybersecurity, systems administration, and cloud computing
Expert knowledge of networking protocols (such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, EIGRP, VRF, SRV6, VPNs spanning tree, VLANs, etc.)
Proficiency in network design principles and architecture frameworks
Deep understanding of OSI model and protocol stack interactions
Knowledge of network security principles, technologies, and best practices
Familiarity with virtualization technologies and software-defined networking
Understanding of disaster recovery and business continuity planning for networks
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex network issues
Ability to translate business requirements into technical network solutions
Strategic thinking to align network architecture with organizational objectives
Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Technical Expert Status Accreditation (TESA) to live and work in Germany
Clearance: Must posses and maintain a TS/SCI clearance; and obtain/maintain additional clearance or accesses required by specific customer requirements

Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field
Industry certifications such as JNCIA-Junos, JNCIS-ENT, JNCIP-ENT, or JNCIE-ENT
Additional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent
2-4 years of hands-on network engineering experience, including configuring and supporting Juniper hardware
Experience with Department of Defense network environments and security requirements
Background working with Top Secret systems and secure network infrastructure
Familiarity with government compliance frameworks and standards
Physical Requirements
May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
